Prayers, Smoke, Good Vibes

I know I'd be hard-pressed to make it under those conditions. Mangled hands and leg in the ocean? WOw!

Your line is cut from some tough cloth, Ben! Blessings fer you all while sorting this out.

Ben,

I know you are both very proud and sad. The sadness will pass.

Smoke from Georgia.

Hell of an adventure. Give yourself and Marsha a little credit, Ben, for bringing her up to be tough and self reliant. Hell of a girl.

Hi Ben:

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's accident, but it sounds as if it is less severe then reported yesterday.

I was going to post yesterday, and suggest that you get her in the best hospital possibile, or evacuate her to Miami by private jet, but decided it would be best to see what the situation is...

I've been in 3rd world countries' public hospitals and checked out their operating rooms and facilities many times... As long as she's stable now, try to seek out the best orthopedic surgeon from the capital, and have an R.M.I. performed... Excellent medical care and hospitals ARE available in most 3rd world countries; you just have to do your homework, and come up with the $, which is still a bargain compared to U.S. prices.

Anyway, Ben, relax a bit, and keep the communication lines open. Smoke going up once again, hoping the problem will be properly attended to and resolved.

Dan :)

She's a pretty tough woman.

I nominate this for the "Understatement of the Year" award. Tough doesn't come close. I can only hope I never have to find out if I'm that tough, I'm a little afraid to know the answer. Prayers will continue of course.

Nothing worse than that feeling right when you know you're falling. Was working on a second story and had the ladder go out from under me once. That was bad enough. Can't imagine 50 feet worth of thinking about when you hit. Hope she heals ok.

My daughter had her surgery yesterday. It took six hours and the injury turned out to be a lot more serious than first thought. Her leg is now held together with pins, screws, a metal plate, and bone from her pelvis.

Her insurance, which she didn't even know she had, is sending a medavac crew with a private jet to fly her to Guadalajara, Mexico and from there on a commercial flight to the hospital in Indiana, where she lives.

There they will examine the surgery and see exactly what was done, and start her on rehab which will be an intensive long term program.

My wife is flying out this evening to Indiana to help her for a couple of weeks and to get her moved to a ground floor apartment because she will be on crutches or a wheelchair for several months.

The "lot more serious" part isn't good news, but I'm glad the surgery is over and that she's going home soon. Best of luck to all of you.

Ben?

Sounds like a good program for a bad situation. "Insurance she didn't know she had" sounds like one extremely conscientious company. For all the bitchin we do about insurance companies, there's a lot of good stuff too.

Tough kid. Helluva tough kid.

hang in, Dude. :)

Best of luck in recovery. Hope in time with patience and her strong will all will be back to normal....
