Prayers smoke whatever

Thanks for the update Jim, good to hear she is getting better. One thing, it may sound selfish at this time, but don't forget to take care of yourself, without you in good shape the wheels fall off.

Absolutely. It is like what the airline attendants say... "Put your oxygen mask on before attempting to help your kids." Everything in your heart says to focus on your loved ones but how can you help them if you are incapacitated.

Take care... to both of you.

That's so great to hear, Jim! It's a long road in recovery, but I know you two can do it. I'll continue praying for the two of you.

So glad to hear Irma is doing so well. I just happened on this thread, sorry to hear of all the problems you two have gone through. Prayers from me also, sounds like her faith and will power is very strong. Walk tall,

Another update. She walked 12' in a walker yesterday. She is regaining use of her left arm and leg and time will tell now far she can go. Far cry from the time they told me to gather her family and she couldn't even wiggle anything on left side.

Still has some emotional issues. Worries a lot and gets scare easily. I would to if my world was suddenly turned upside down. Walking a bit helped as one of her big fears was never coming home and until then no assurances seemed to over come that. She doesn't seem to see how far she has come and wants to come home so bad. Sometimes hard to convince her that she is better off in rehab.

I love it when they prove doctors wrong! All of the things she is going through are completely expected when recovering from a stroke. Hang in there, it sounds like she is doing great! With strokes on the right side of the brain, it's pretty common for them to have difficulty recognizing their deficits and thus recognizing how important their rehab is. Just keep encouraging her and be patient through the emotional swings, as this is just another common effect of the stroke. The best thing for her recovery in that regard will be your strong, stable presence, and a quiet and stable environment when she does go home to begin out patient or home health services.

Still praying for her and for you, brother.

Man has the world turned around. Irma came home during the day Saturday and Sunday. She mostly moves in a wheel chair, but holding on to my hand and going slow she can walk short distances and once forgot and left go of my hand while standing and stood for about 10 seconds with no problems. She doesn't drag her affected leg at all. Just slow and unsure. I believe she will get better yet. It truly is a miracle as about a month ago I was giving every reason to belive that she was not going to make it through the weekend. Looks like she can come home to stay around the end of this month. Will need some help, but is raring to start doing "her part" around the house. What an attitude!

She believes very strongly in the power of prayer. Thank you all for yours.

I believe in a higher power. I am to lowly in comparison to even try to define such a power. Believe, everything is related and your relationship with the whole determines your fate. She is truly a gentle and loving soul and deserves the best.

She worked all her life, raised two boys by herself (deadbeat dad) never took one dime of assistance because it was against her principles. The last to years with me is the first time in her life she didn't work and could enjoy life. She deserves MORE.

My sweety came home this Friday from rehab. She is doing well and gets around mostly with a walker. She can walk without it, but, balance is not that great yet. She has made a truly great recovery. She thanks everyone for thoughts and prayers.
