Sorry for another pic but I love the patina on the lock. According to the table it looks like mine was made around 1967.

Nice man! Hell yea, that looks good.No patina yet, but I like the gun-metal grey look of the carbon steel.

Opinel sent me a new lock ring!! No charge!!So today I got a little excited when I saw another Opinel rusted up without a lock ring (Virobloc) at a flea market .,,,,
A bit of a clean.

It’s actually a 1986-90 number 8 missing it’s lock ring, the blade is carbon and the ferrule was nickel plated.

I don’t imagine I’ll find a carbon lock ring or another Opinel that is all useless other than it’s lockring as a donor.......

A #12 with a damaged blade, it was cheap enough to warrant bringing it back to life!

The blade markings are 80-86.
You can also do as I've read the French do and tap the collar on a cutting board or other hard surface to start the blade open.
Not much use when you are standing in the middle of the desertYou can also do as I've read the French do and tap the collar on a cutting board or other hard surface to start the blade open.
Not the collar, the end of the handle. The "Coup du Savoyard".
Improve the blade opening

I can't open many of mine with the nail nick either because it's hidden from a worn blade or it's too tight, & that's what I aim for so no accidental openings, I open them by tapping the end of the handle on something hard.
The one's with the blade close cutout are often left a little looser as this isn't an issue but sometimes those need a tap as well as the wood changes.
