pre '86 307?

Pins S. steel, others made besides your Remington as Camillus copied the Bucks, or Buck used the Camillus design with their trademark items. I don't have any other 307copies but have seen them. I have an exact copy of a 303, color everything, with only Remington stamped on escutcheon plate on scale and tang marks ground off. If you had wanted to spend the $$ you could of had orca stamped on a couple of thousand I am sure....... Need to start a photo collection of that clone stuff.

14Bucks - I have never heard of commerical grade Buck blades.

I measured 8 307s at top of blade right in front of tang grind, here is what I got.

.101 - Made In USA tang
.101 - Made In USA tang
.103 - Made In USA tang
.103 - Buck, 307,USA tang
.108 - Buck, 307,USA tang
.101 - BUCK on scale (Yellow)
.103 - BUCK on scale
.107 - BUCK on scale

I measured 5 301s in another thread and got a spread of .086 to .096
In that same thread Knarfeng measured some NON Buck clones and got a spread of .078 to .087. He also reported that plate steel used for knife blades has an industry standard of no more than 3 mils variance.

Now thats some data that will put people to sleep..........300Bucks

I have a question on this pattern - the large Stockman: I have a Remington 9501, that I'm fairly certain is made by Camillus; the pins sit a little proud of the polished bolsters. It has the same long nail pull of the main blade on the bottom 307 in post #18, and the two secondaries have regular pulls. It has yellow/green Delrin scales, and slanted bolsters. If it had black Delrin scales, it would be identical to that 307.

Did Camillus make these during the same period of time, and if so, who else did they make this pattern for?

Yes, Camillus made this one. They made it in several variations under the Remington name, as well as under their own name.

Remington Yellow Jacket (also found in green and yellow, and red and yellow...and Lord knows how many other handles and blade variations)

Camillus Rimfire Series.

Camillus black delrin. (change the tangstamp and shield, and it's a Buck 307)

Thanks for the info, guys. That actually settles a lot of questions for me. I'm slowly putting together a collection of the Stockman pattern, small to large, and I started to realize that I was seeing many knives with different scale colors, tang stamps, etc., but identical in all other respects.

Pins in stainless steel? These joints must be nigh indestructible . . .

These large Stockman's are amazing - and (to me) a little too big for pocket carry, except in jeans. I might have to have Gary make me a couple of sheaths. I could be happy the rest of my days with just a couple of nice Camillus (and Buck, or Case, or Queen, or . . . ;) ) Stockmans.

thx - cpr

The comercial verrsion was what the sales man at the store had said at the time of the purchase. He all so showed a black handle version, and to the eye it looked like thicker steel. He all so said that they had just come out, that they where in the store for about a week, if I remember right. I would measure the knife but it is in Texas, and I am in Arizona. I don't know when and if I might make it back to Texas. Had planned to go for Thanksgiving, but had to change the plans.HL
