This dagger has my damascus (fully heat treated 1095 and nickel) pre-ban elephant ivory and nickel silver. Skullkruster screwed and glued on. Guard is sealed so it wont rust from within if gotten wet. Blade length is 5 1/2 inch overall is 9 inch and ivory is 1/2 inch round. This is a presentation grade little bodice dagger. Price is 250.00 plus shipping. Only USA as it cant be shipped outside due to laws. You can view my website and see I make a lot of fine daggers. www.theknifemaker.com Thanks for looking Dan

Everybody can make up their own minds, but I wouldn't touch a knife made of ivory - pre-ban or not. Even today, elephants are being slaughtered in Africa to feed the ivory trade. It's demand for the ivory that causes the killing.

Elephants will be killed by poachers no matter what. Ivory doesn't have as much to do with it as ready access to automatic weapons and hunting bans. You'll find countries with hunting bans have the heaviest pressure on the elephants because there are no funds to pay game wardens to protect them. Elephants are thriving in much of Africa. Even the Sudan has the herds coming back. The biggest long term danger is the mistaken idea that the "tuskless' elephants are the salvation of the species when in fact it will be the end of them.
I've hunted elephant and they are magnificent creatures. I respect them immensely and support conservation measures but the ivory ban was poorly conceived.:thumbdn:

Right now there are reserves in Africa that have warehouses full of ivory because they have to cull the herd because they dont have enough land to keep the animals and they are lobbying USA to aell it here and us the money to buy more land to increase the herd. Also this is not the place to air your politcal thoughts.

Dan,
Mighty Pretty knife!!!
A suggestion,,,,if you have a certificate of origin that the ivory is pre-ban, provide that to a collector who might purchase that pretty knife.....If you don't have a certificate, contact your supplier, he/she should be able to provide one....you still can't sell to outside (or export to outside) the USA.
And it is still a beautiful piece.....
Politics is where you can vote to make a difference...otherwise...pzzzzzzttttt to the "opinionator"......
Dan, I'm not sure about a "bodice dagger".....but I am sure that , based on the jpegs and description, you have extremely underpriced that dagger!!!!!!
GO DAN go!

It is in extremely poor taste -- and in violation of Bladeforums rules -- to post adverse comments in a sale thread. Please confine your remarks to the proper forums.

There are hippo teeth , wart hog ,and a variety of sea mammals that qualify for ivory.
