This is a Peterson Universal Height Gauge. It will accept your digital or dial calipers and has a screw in adaptor to accept a dial indicator as well. The scribe is hardened tool steel. Only 8 prototypes of this height gauge were ever machined by Mike Peterson, Master Machinist from California. He patented the design. I own this one and use it to scribe lines on my blade blanks.
