Predetermined Breaking Point?

Crom invented S7 so we wouldn't have to worry about this.

And even if S7 breaks (if an elephant makes push ups hanging in your knife), there's k600, with even lower carbon (0,45%) and 4% nickel, so can stop a train with your knife (beer talking guys) or 4340!

I think the consensus is that a properly made sword, in the right modern steel, with the right geometry will survive most anything a sword should encounter in a sword fight. In battle today, if the man with the sword meets a man with a gun, the sword's attributes are irrelevant.

Since sword fighting is not a current issue, this discussion of X vs Y vs Z is sort of like the arguments I see online where people are seriously discussing if Superman and Batman had a fight who would win (Oh wait, they actually made a movie about that argument!).

Thank you and everybody for this insightful discussion. It was fun reading your thoughts guys. I think I got a better idea now.

Just a fun question, do those thin advanceable blades ever break along the grooves? :-D

As I understand it, Japanese katana swords were made from broken samurai swords. If you have a secondary knife design in mind from a broken knife, that might work. But a four to six inch blade that is broken it's just a broken knife to me.

You mean wakizashi or tantos made from broken katana blades?
