do the Blade forum users have a style of blade they like to make or use over other styles? strait/curved, "damascus"/not, plain/serrated? heck, anyone out there like making axes or hatchets instead of knives? just curious.

We all have our individual preferences but I think you would find the most popular would be straight edges lacking serrations with some belly at the tip in either a stonewash, bead blast or satin finish. Flat grinds being very popular with a close second being a hollow grind.

Hi Nepeta, Kind of a vague question since most here probably have most all blade shapes and use or prefer a shape that is specific to a use.

For me,
-my favorite blade shape is a drop point, and least favorite is a tanto.
-I like plain blades, no serrations
-I prefer "plain" steels vs Damascus, but there are some beautiful Damascus blades out there.

There are a lot of guys that are into hatchets and axes, as they are cutting tools like knives. They are just less common due to the fact that most people don't use a axe or hatchet everyday like they would a knife.

Those are my thoughts.

Clip point and hollow grind for smaller edc blades. Drop point full flat grind for larger ones. Serrated edges for on the water/boat (great for cutting rope or an emergency when hung up).

Convex grinds are very popular for fixed blades.

Another popular category are machetes in addition to axes, hatchets, and tomahawks. You get a wide mix of interests and they change and evolve over time. It seems almost everyone is looking for that "one blade" to do it all in both a fixed blade and folder.

A lot of people are looking for a one cutting tool option .
They may like a combo edge for this as an edc, or a large heavy chopper for woods work.
For edc I prefer a and thin plain edge full flat or hollow grind blade on the narrow side, and am not really concerned about finish or blade steels other than having a non mandatory preference for carbon steel.
There are also people who may care about how well a light machete can chop, while I am not because I know that they're a clearing tool and not a processing tool. So I like something thin and fast for clearing work.
for woods work I'd rather take a small hatchet, small fixed blade or just what's already in my pocket, and an 18" bladed light machete over some big heavy chopping knife . It may add up to more weight than more versatile but not as good heavy chopper, but it can be spread out.

I really don't do fixed blades. I was simply saying what I felt was most popular all around. We also never really clarified if we are talking primary grind or edge grind. Either way I agree convex is also popular. Especially with edges.
