Preferences; sunken Joints or raised

I carried a knife with a raised joint for 40 years and it never really bothered me much. It never dug into my hand or ruined a pocket that I can remember. It did kind of upset the aesthetics of an otherwise good-looking the knife, but not enough for me to get rid of it.

Nowadays I would prefer a sunken joint, mainly for the looks, but I wouldn't object to a raised joint on the 'right' knife. I guess what I'm saying is that it's kinda low on the list of acceptance criteria for me.

i have a feeling raised joints are unavoidable with certain configurations. same-end jacks for instance. and what about those with 3 or more blades whose ends overlap?

SAKS have perfected the art of sunk-joints but then they use the same Equal End frame on most patterns. Makes for smooth pocket carry though and looks better.

But a multilayer SAK has a huge (sideways on) handle compared to it's blade size so it's really easy to cover the tang let alone "sink" it.
SAKs generally aren't equal ended, there is normally a small size difference.

Very well, but I base my assertion on e.g. their Pruner which is two blades one spring thick and certainly Equal End, like most Alox models.
