Hi!

What would be the preferred method of making a spanish notch on a blade?

Milling machine? Drill press? Dremel? Round file? How would you rank the different methods?

Thanks!

If you mean a simple choil notch, most people file in a semi-circle with a small round chain saw file. The notch should be filed after the bevels and plunges are finished.

A fancy spiraling Spanish notch is made with files and a jewelers saw. It takes some time to get it smoothly curved. Start with a simple curved "comma" and add the tear-drop and additional spiral as you go. Good grade small needle files, and abrasive strips, are needed.
