hey. long time reader, but this is my first post.

anyhow, my jeans have little rips and shredded denim on the right front pocket. obviously from the clip, but what do you guys do to prevent this? or am i the only one?

Welcome to the Blade Forums!! As for your question, I think thats just part of being a knife knut. I have the same thing on both pockets. You could try bending your clips back alittle to prevent wear, or you can carry your knives in a case or pouch. There are allot of great makers on this forum that can custom make anything you need

Part of the problem, at least in my experience, has been from the edges of the clips. On any knive with a removable clip, I try to make sure these are as smooth/rounded as possible, with a belt grinder if you have it, just with sandpaper/files if you don't.

Wear your knife-knut war wounds with honor! You should be proud of your torn jeans!!:D

wear marks on all 4 main pockets, the right front belt loop(from IWB), and the outside of my boots.

one of the few ways to tell if you have a knife knut in a heavy public area. If you don`t see the clips, look for the marks.

View this as an omen that requires you to A) buy new jeans, we men hold on to our clothes way too long anyway, or B) buy a new knife (always a good thing) in hopes that it will cause less wear; or better yet BOTH!!!! :) :)

It's going to happen--just part of being a knifeknut. Some knives are worse than others in this department. The worst are knives with very rough scales or screws that are located opposite the clip's pressure point. They will really start to tear away at your pocket.

Keep your Calvins for dress purposes and invest in cheaper jeans for general knife carry.:D

BTW, Welcome to the Forums.:)

Some knives are worse than others, all knives do it some. Seems like if the pocket clip is tight enough you can keep the knife from sitting all the way down tight against the edge or your pocket, that way it doesn't rub when you walk.
What causes the most wear for me is tip down frame locks. The outside corner of the locking bar on my BM750 will just barely catch on the hem of my pocket as I draw it, if you get in the habit of twisting it a little bit as you pull it out it hardly wears your pockets at all.
Ambi thumb studs can do the same thing. About the only good reason for having a single reversible thumbstud. Same thing, if you twist the knife a little bit as you draw it, it won't catch.

Then there's always rotating pockets for even wear, or carrying a knife in each pocket so they all match or collecting custom sheaths ;)

It's just part of carrying knives. Personally, I smooth the edges of the clips. I use varying grits of sandpaper ending with 1000 grit or so and put a small radius on the clip where it contacts the pocket. Doesn't make the wear go away, but it does help.

most of my pants have wear marks from the clips. I don't worry about it. I have a pair of steel toe Cats that are far uglier than any of my pockets. YMMV.
