i had a few boards lying around doing nothing, so i cut a few scales off of them.
this is all natural wood - not stabilized.
first up is curly moabi, also known as african pearwood.
i've seen janka ratings range from 1900 to 3800 - i think 1900 is probably more correct.
moabi comes in a rainbow of colors, but this is a nice rich honey brown.
i cut these in larger sizes, since it really deserves a large canvas to show its stuff.
these 5" sets are$20 $16 each.
i did something different for these 6" sets.
i cut them so the curl runs the length of the scale, rather than across.
these are$25 $20 per set.
bubinga is sold pending funds.
thanks for looking.
this is some pretty funky stuff.
it's called pommele bubinga.
of course, bubinga is well-known to knife aficionados for its rich color and toughness.
pommele is a french word meaning "dappled" or "brindle."
basically, the figuring of the wood looks like raindrops in a puddle of water.
i wish the photos captured the texture better.
the 4" sets are$20 $16 each.
5" sets are$25 $20.
sapele is sold pending funds.
thanks for looking.
now, this spectacular stuff is sapele.
imagine a cross between snakewood and mother of pearl.
seriously.
the depth of figuring here is the most dramatic i've ever seen.
sapele has a janka rating of around 1500 - a bit higher than hard rock maple.
absolutely gorgeous stuff.
the 4" sets are$30 $24.
the 5" sets are$35 $28.
either post here or pm me.
thanks for looking.
