Prepare a new cork belt

I always use them with rouge, never tried one dry. I don't get quite a mirror, I still have to buff for that, but you should get a very fine finish. It will show any scratches you missed in previous grits, if the belt is making new scratches then it's not conditioned enough yet.

Just don't run a cork belt too fast and drive that piece of conditioning steel into it too hard when you first get it. I had a 2" wide diagonal stripe across my forehead for 3 days because no-one told me this. They go with a hell of a BANG ! :o
I was really pissed about it too. We can't get them from any dealer here in the UK so they have to be mail ordered from the U.S. I got a 400, a 600 and an 800 through a friend who was putting an order in to Trugrit. No sooner had they arrived than I was out to the 'shop to get them working. The 400 went fine, but the 600 blew apart on me and gave me a right royal slap in the face and head for my troubles.
