Here's some good information for all you survivalists.

H5N1 avian flu

That is kind of scary - here in Germany the bird-flu has arrived (right now it only seems to be in the north (Baltic sea-region) but will surely spread when the birds leave their winter-domicil and return.
It is even scarier when you know about the Spanish flu of 1918 - the virus was a close relative (H1N1) of the virus we see now (H5N1) - and it killed about 25 000 000 human beings (the numbers killed in asia is unknown and has to be added) because people were weakened from WWI, soldiers from all over the world returned from the battlefields and brought home the virus that easily spread on the ships and in the barracks they used. (WWI cost "only" 10 000 000 lives). Not too long ago they found flu-victims from 1918 in the permafrost region and managed to isolate the virus that had been unknown until then - it was a bird-flu-virus that had mutated.
Lets see what the future brings.

So why not bury a body by the septic system? It seems like a good place since it also produces undrinkable water and hopefully does not feed directly into someone's drinking water.

Gotta take the heads off first for two reasons.

1. Zombies
2. I have a Falcatta

As to number 1:
MORTITION: Do you want your mother-in-law embalmbed or cremated?
S-I-L: Embalm and then cremate. Take no chances.

And for the other: "Don't I wish!" :grumpy:

I thought the only proper way to dispose of diseased corpses is to burn them.

Daym good point, Kaz. Anybody got an answer? The fuel shortage?

here in japan you have to cut the body up into pieces no longer than 75 cm, bundle them together with a biodegradable rope and leave them out in the regular garbage pickup area on the third saturday of every month by 9 am.

Lucky for Japan that all its citizens are exact multiples of 75cm...

This bird flu thing is a little scary. I'm just coming off a case of the flu, and i can't imagine how horrible it would be to have it about 10 times worse than what I have had it. I came down with it on Sunday, ran a 103.4 fever, and felt like i was gonna die. By today, it's only a 99 degree fever and the junk in my chest is starting to think about breaking up. Honestly, i don't know what they'll do around here in my neighborhood is all hell breaks loose. All the houses are really close together. at least there is ample farm land nearby to get them in the ground good and deep. My main concern if something like the bird flu cripples the country for awhile is that there are a WHOLE lot less people like those found in the Cantina, and a WHOLE lot more panicing idiots.
Honestly, I guess if it got completely out of hand treating the bird flu outbreak like one of our ribbing zombie plans would not be too out of the question. If it comes down to a brief Road Warrior stint, then i guess i'll hole up at my office. Plenty of places to bed, removed from people, easily modified, steel construction, tempered glass, and the kicker...I can easily modify the display pool to be filtered through a couple of paper cart. filter systems and 2 or three ozonators. It stays covered and can be drinkable for a long while. I would basically have 16,000 gallons of self contained and drinkable (although not ideal) water, a strong building, and room for my whole family (both sides). I guess if the electricity holds we'd even have a hot bath...in one of the hot tubs:) PLUS, there are TWO empty lots to bury all the zombies!..er..um..bird flu suffers

I think if there is an outbreak in the U.S. we all should meet up somewhere like a shopping mall and stay there. Then when the dead come back to life.........oops wrong outbreak i think.:o

How many people do you think would die if there was a bird flu pandemic?

Cheer up.

According to the CDC, more poeple die of "ordinary" flu between pandemics than during them - 30-40,000/yr. in the U.S. alone - mostly the old, the very young, and those with impaired immune systems.

Then there are the millions that have died of AIDs and motor vehicle accidents.

400,000/ yr. in the U.S. from tobacco.

What, me worry? :o

I needed that Bruise...

DaddyDett - Been spending way too much time with the professionals!

Bruise is too damn funny. We should do something about that; but what?
