Preparing for pandemic: know how to bury your dead

Before anyone gets too spooked, you only get bird flu from breathing in an infected birds excrement. It is often atomised by the feathers. You can't get it by eating chicken as I have heard people say. If a bird is infected and put into the food chain, cooking kills the virus.

Okay...somebody buy Bruise a dust mask and a bald chicken.

I think you can still have your chicken poop stew...just make sure it's well cooked. However, i don't think you'll want to sample the ingredients "fresh from the teat" so to speak.

Wouldn't that be a humorous end to the bird flu scare?
"After months of research, scientists have discovered a way to keep millions of people from contracting the deadly H5N1 virus. Dr. Fancypants, please fill us in on this important discovery."
"Thanks, Tom. Yes, the collective scientific community has come to the conclusion that if rual people would just quit eating the damn fresh bird poop this would all go away."
"There you have it folks. Bumpkins, stop making Grandma Bruise's bird poop stew, no one else is going to get sick. Also, the entire world will probably think you a little less gross if..ya know..you didn't eat chicken droppings by the tablespoonful."
