Preserving Leather

I have an AF pilot survival knife. I'm looking for the best way to protect the leather handle and sheath. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to preserve the leather without leaving any kind of film on it?

I guess a leather conditioner like Lexol can be used.. but for making it shine and waterproofing it which helps preserve it, use something like renaissance wax, or butchers wax.

Lexol or Neatsfoot oil are my favorite.
