Presharpened Machetes

Hmm, a 12 would probably work for me, or if you chopped off 2" that could work too :D. I have been on a bit of a machete kick lately but the shorter ones definitely suit me better
Unfortunately the shortest I presently can get is the 12". I can cut 2" off them, though. :p

Tramontina USA is the supplier for distributors in the 'states and that's why you only see the models you do, vs. the ones on Tramontina's website. You'd have to go direct with Tramontina Brazil to get your hands on them and I'm in no position to do that right now. :o

The 12" Tramontina is quite well balanced, and has one of the best handles they make. I wish they used the same handle on their 14" bolo and larger wood handled machetes.

Honestly I don't usually like going any shorter than 14". Unless you pack on mass by increasing thickness your chopping ability goes right out the window, let alone reach. 14" is plenty packable, too. Just my thoughts. :)

The round-style handle is probably more comfortable for folks with larger hands. I have puny little girl hands and find both handle types comfortable. :p

The round handle looks nicer, too.

That's personal preference, though. I actually like the look of the the other handle style. :D

BurnCycle. I hope you like the 12" Ontario. I have several and after using them I decided I simply didn't like them for hard use and moved to Condor products which I have found exceptional. In particular, the Condor Golok is great and the new Pack Golok seems to be a heck of a short chopper and pretty comfortable on the hands.

One of the problems with the Ontarios is NO Sheath.

On my quest for a short machete, I started with the hardware store machetes. Then moved to the Ontario and tried it out. Then moved to Condor products and have been very satisfied overall. It's a journey and there is a lot of personal preferrence involved. The one machete I want to buy yet is the Condor Viking which has a smaller handle which fits me perfectly. It will appear one day in my machete accumulation... Good luck with yours.

I have found that the diamond chisel type sharpeners, probably Smith or DMT with coarse and fine grits work great for machetes. Even I can sharpen one now.

Hmmm--USPS must have been delayed on account of the holiday. Last check-in scan was at the sort facility and it says its expected delivery date was the 3rd! :o It usually only takes 2-3 days for Priority to get there. Be sure to let me know what you think of it! They may not be pretty but they work awful well!

Just came in the mail

All the hard work has been done and it's functional out of the box, exactly what I was looking for! More than happy with this purchase

I'm already thinking about a Tramontina next, I think I have a problem lol :D

Huzzah! Now get outside and give it a workout! We need action shots! :D :D :D

I tell ya' what--sanding down polypropylene is a pain in the butt. :p But it really makes all the difference in getting the Ontarios into good usable shape. If there are any little residual scrids of plastic still on it (there probably are--it's nearly impossible for me to catch all of them) they're fairly easily removed by scraping it with your thumbnail. :)

Hells yeah--that's why it's actually one of my favorite handle materials, believe it or not. Especially when molded straight to the tang. Extremely tough, and unless aggressively textured tends not to give you blisters during extended use.
