presidio and presidio ultra

on that note, my "do stuff in the yard/go into the woods" kabar is the 1271 with the full size tang ( full-er sized anyway lol 3/4") not just full length like the 1217 and 99% of their lineup. if I like the 275 enough, I may just get a 375 as my primary outdoor knife. just wish benchmade made some carbon steel (personal preference) aside from d2, fixed blades in the 5" to 6" blade range.

My first Presidio seemed hard on pockets. Sold it. The second one a year later wasn't at all. Can't say for sure but seem to remember reading on BF that a handle change was made at the clip contact point. It is kind of a heavy pocket knife but that doesn't bother me. Presidio has the most comfortable handle of any knife I own.

I used to dislike the Presidio scales. Yet my 525BK-1101 has become a favorite. (I love M4) Backing the clip off giving it some room the knife is no more damaging to my pocket thank any of the others and the solid feel with that extra bit of weight is a bonus.

I love the Presidio line it's my favorite axis lock. I currently have 3 of the 525 and I'm freaking out because it's been discontinued and now I want to buy more of them!

I think I'm going to go a completely different route. my wife said she wants me to get the rift, and I was about set to buy it, but I got to thinking... I have plenty of knives that are good slicers, and some of my slipjoints really take the cake on that. I don't have any robust folders so I've been thinking the 275 adamas would do me well. I could take it out in the yard or woods and probably not feel the need to strap on a kabar. even for edc I don't think the weight would bother me considering how much I have on me on a daily basis. plus if I never get a blade in d2 i'll never know how I feel about it. I'm really probably about due for a medium or small sized fixed blade, but I feel the need to add a folder into my edc rotation right now, and I believe it could serve as a decent small fixed blade substitute for when I don't need a full sized one. maybe i'll get a 375 to match it someday.

The 275 is a tank of a knife, and so is the Contego, if you like the blade shape of the Rift. Both are hard use knives. The Rift will do just fine in the woods as well, as it is tougher than you might think.

thanks for the replies. I should be ordering a 275 as soon as I hear back from benchmade about something unrelated. the contego never really did anything for me, not sure why since it's so similar to a larger version of the rift. out of the rift, presidio and adamas, which do you guys think has the longest shelf life, and shortest shelf life? they've discontinued some that were a surprise to me, like the 525 (and some others I can't think of.) i'll go on a buying kick, then not buying anything for myself for a year or more and lose track of what's going on with current models for different manufacturers. if there are talks about the 520 or 950 being discontinued anytime soon I may go with one of them first though.

anybody have any insight on the bolded part? thanks

I would be amazed if they get rid of the manual version of their 5000 before getting rid of the auto. The Rift has been around longer than the Adams, so out of the three, that is the one that will probably disappear first. Granted, it could be a few more years since it is pretty darn popular. I just hope they come out with one in M390 or something similar very soon.

I have all 3 and if I had to pick just one I'd go with the OG, the Presidio. I personally don't care what it does to my pocket, I also carry a Triage, it's the worst at pocket damage, the Presidio isn't nearly as bad. There's something about the Infidel / Presidio handle that even after a lot of good use and "patina" they just feel awesome in the hand. The Presidio is heavy as well, but I also appreciate that in a folder. If you want a folder to beat on and use daily I'd take a full size Presidio over anything Benchmades makes. Brad
