I'm starting to collect materials for a forging press and from what I understand, the two key things in a press are speed and pressure. I'm specifically looking at a two stage pump 16 gpm/ 4 gpm and either a 4, 4.5, or 5 inch ram bore. If I'm figuring correctly that will give me 4.9 ips in high and 1.2 ips in low @ 35816 psi with the 4", 3.9 ips in high, 1 ips in low @ 44532 psi with the 4.5", 3.1 ips in high and .8 ips in low @ 54978 psi with the 5"
So, which is more important-speed or power? Or is the compromise of the two better?
