Pretty excited. My first knife.

I just learned the ropes of knifemaking from John from JK Knives (Stomper on the forum). I knew absolutely nothing, and under his expert guidance, was able to make something that resembled a knife. I'm pretty happy with it, but I have a LONG ways to go.

This was all done by hand from 01 flat stock. I learned how to profile, grind bevels, heat treat, temper, cut handles, shape handles, make kydex sheaths, and sharpen an edge.

Specs:
Steel: 01
Length - Overall: 6 1/2"
Length - Blade: 2 3/4"
Handle: Maple Burl
Thickness - 1/8"

Pardon the crappy pictures, I don't have a light box or anything:

Looks pretty good! I would probably round the top of the handle a little more on your next one, but just use this one for a little bit and then decide what you like and what you think should be changed.

I believe will levitt or nick wheeler or both told me round my handles ege shaped to they are more appealing to the eye and while handling. Other than that very nice you need a little work on the plunge cuts at the ricasso but so do I .The nice thing about wood you can keep working on it even now to touch up areas . I re did mine twice before i was happy. nice choice in wood i think ill have to try to make a sheath like that very nice . kellyw

Thanks for the feedback all! Ya I may mess with the handles a little more. Essentially all I did was knock the corners off the original rectangle. After that, this baby is getting put in the safe so many years from now I can be impressed (hopefully ;) ) by how far I've come.

Oh, and btw. Plunge lines and bevels are the bain of my existence.

If you guys are up for it, I plan to put together a light box for this and other purposes soon. I can take some better lighted pictures and maybe you guys could give me some more critiques? That would be great.

Very good first knife, much better than mine. A light box will help with the pictures but also try a few more angles to give a better idea of the knife.
It looks like you already know a few things you can work on as you mention like grind, plunge and handle shape.

Thanks for sharing and keep' em coming. :)
