First, I have nothing to do with these listings on eBay. I was browsing there this evening since my DC motor controller went out on me. I ended up swapping it out with another one that I had saved for another project . . .
Anyway.
Here's a 3HP Baldor Brushless DC Motor, TEFC with a starting bid of $150. I bet it could be bought for no more than $200. Might need dusted off a bit. MOTOR LINK
Athough it will only work for up to 2 hp DC motors (won't work with the above motor), here's a Baldor DC motor controller with a starting bid of $75. COMTROLLER LINK
There's some deals to be found with a little patience and looking. This is how I got my variable speed set-up on for my KMG grinder.
