Hello. New to Damascus steel. Yesterday I went on a garage sale nearby and found an old lady selling all kind's of stuff. As I am a kinda of knife fan(aren't we all here) I saw this beauty and asked the lady for more information. She told me that her husband had passed away and she is selling everyhing from him. She didn't know much about knives but I thought it was pretty. Sold it to me for 10 bucks. Of course I imagined it was some fake non Damascus steel but searching around I think it might be leggit. What do you guys think? If real how much money do you think it will cost?
Thank you :)

Looks like one of the many Damascus knives coming out of Pakistan. Probably made within the last 10 years. Value cant be discussed with your membership level. But they are generally inexpensive.

I would agree that $10 is about what you would pay for that knife new at whatever kind of place sells touristy Pakistan knives... that being said, if you like it, who cares? Sharpen it up and use it. If you bought it thinking you could flip it and retire I believe you are out of luck...

We've all bought Pakistani crap in the past. I have a box that gets them tossed in when I find them in the knife lots I buy. That drawer has around 20 of them in there so far. No shame in buying something you may not have been educated on. You just paid $10 for an education on Pakistani knives. That's less than many others have paid in the past.

Use it and abuse it. Or, if you'd like, clean it and mount it to the wall...with a $10 bill as a reminder.

Cool looking, but I'd agree with the others. It's not a particularly well thought out or useful design, more something to catch your eye while at a flea market etc.

Damascus is a mixed bag; there is no standard or regulation so it can be from any steel under the sun (even the highly vaunted Rostafrei).

I'm familiar with the situation you were in. 99% of people who I am told are into knives, it's usually crap.

Case in point:

My ex-father-in-law had a friend who had a big knife collection. I was introduced at a party, and the took me into his basement. The guy had probably ~900 fixed blades and may 20 folders. I took a look at one of the glass cases and knew that he was a flea market vendor's best friend. He couldn't tell me a single thing about the steel on any of his knives. They all had pristine edges, never been used.

In life, most times you get what you pay for. In my life, I always end up with more than I asked/bargained for unfortunately.

Except in bst sometimes. Some dude scored a like new CRK Damascus Sebenza last week for $405!
