Preview and Submit Post Locks up

I'd quote some of these posts but I'm afraid it would lock me up again!

It's intermittant for me on all forums I've used but always happens when using the Quote function. The windows task manager always shows two BFC windows open and not responding when it happens. Tonight it even locked up Word when I tried to save the post there before hitting the Submit button......grrrrrrrrrrr!

I agree it does sound like an issue with IE.

......................

Please remember we were not having these problems using IE, before the recent BFC issues.

I used to use IE6SP1 on Win ME, and had no troubles. After one of the upgrades to the Vbulletin software about a year ago, I started having super slow loads, and lock ups no matter what I was doing.
So these are not recent issues, and I had the same problem on all Vbulletin forums I visit.

It never stopped, I just quit using IE on VB forums, and went to Mozilla Firefox browser.

This is something in VB's software and it's been there for awhile. And yes, I did report it long ago.

I've also experienced the lock up problem.

For me, it happens intermittantly, and it doesn't matter if I'm quoting or not.

Seems like this started happening right after the latest upgrade.

WoW! - thanks Mike for that input.

Up until the recent upgrade to vBulletin Version 3.0.8 I hadn't noticed any problems with lock-ups on IE6 (ver 6.0.2800.1106 - kept up to date pretty regularly) I am also on Windows Me. The Lock-Up problems only started when BFC ws recently upgraded.

Did you ever figure out if any particular thing was causing the lock up on IE6 for you, please?

For me it appears to be having a QUOTE=username tag in the post - and the longer the quote the more likely the lock-up.
It also appears to be accumulative - ie: with a QUOTE=username tag - the more Previews (and/or Edits) I do the more lilkely it will eventually lock-up.

I'm not sure if this is merely a symptom - or a possible cause.

This is now happening to me over at CandlePowerForums.com where they have also just installed vBulletin Version 3.0.8

No, I never found the reason, it just loaded so slow on IE that it took a great amount of time to view any threads at all.

Posting replies was at least a 5 minute operation, whether I used quote or not.

Someone on BFC was recommending Mozilla Firefox browser to someone else having the same problem as me, and I downloaded it to try.

It certainly speeded things up a bit, but I really don't like it as well as IE as you can't organise your favorites the same and that bugs me.

I finally upgraded my OS to Win XP Pro, and I can now browse this forum using IE, but it's still a slow load, just not quite as bad as before.

So, I'll just continue to use Mozilla.

VB forums has some glitch in it's software that conflicts with IE, and has for quite awhile. I hope they find it.

One could use the task manager for looking up the process reserving the resources, sometimes the virus scanner is the culprit.

When it happens to me, it's just IE taking up the processor. Things do run slower sometimes, especially other browser windows. I have Norton at work and AVG at home, and it happens with both. By the way, Norton seems to be an annoying hog compared to AVG, but it's not doing anything special when the posting locks up.

IE6 running on WinXP service pack 2. The last thing I remember doing prior to experiencing the lockup problem was running the MS updates to fix vunerabilities to the Zotob virus and its variants. My machine locks up after hitting Submit or Preview buttons, but the Submit or Preview eventually registers and my machine unlocks, usually after several minutes. So far, the hanging occurs only when submitting or previewing posts with quotes.

This is still an issue for several of us; me included.

Last time it happened to me (Friday) it crashed my browser, and I had to reboot the PC.

If someone out there is different than me and cares a damn about whether this issue is fixed, they could use a filter like Privoxy to try and isolate the problem.

Someone could try filtering cascading style sheets, javascript, or any number of other things and see if it helps.

I noticed a couple of the Lock-Up threads have been closed -

IE locks up BAD when posting! (

Man, are we having lock-up problems today!

and we've upgraded to vBulletin Version 3.0.9

So this is just a TEST to see if my IE6 locks-up when I use a QUOTE=username tag.

I'll do multiple previews if it appears to be working......

Previewed 1,2,3,4 5 times -

So multiple PREVIEWs seems to have worked fine.

Will return to EDIT multiple times.

Test EDIT (with Preview) - 1, 2, 3 times

YES! I think vBulletin Version 3.0.9 has cleared the IE6 lock-up problem for me.

A BIG THANK YOU to Spark and admin for clearing up this problem
