Preview of Kershaw's New ET Folder with Pics and Video!

Great post & pictures DonR.I'm waiting for my preordered Kershaw ET.They did a great job with Grant Hawk's DOG lock folder. For the price Kershaw made a fantastic replica. The DOG lock is a little too heavy and thick for me.Also the thumb ramp is placed too far back to be a true one handed closer. But its made just like the original custom.
I got to handle the ET folder at last yrs.show.Its an engineering marvel.I could see how opening & closing could be addicting.I hope Kershaw did just as good a job duptlicating the ET as the DOG.I know its much lighter than the DOG but I wonder if the ET is a pocket carrying folder.I remember it was pretty wide in the closed position.BTW the ET is the same lock as the Toggle Lock that the Hawk's make. The ET is just wide open-nothing covering it.Now Im really looking forward to getting mine.;)

Thanks for posting those pics and that video. Really helps you understand just how this most unusual knife works.

I have to say, though, after looking at the video, this seems more like a clever gimick than a really useful new operating mechanism. It looks like a Spyderco-style thumb hole blade or the Leek-style assisted opening mechanism would be much easier to use in an EDC than this lever mechanism.

Very cool looking.

Sandvik is a decent steel, in the short time I used it, but challenging to sharpen...I'm sure others use it, but the only knives I've personally seen with it are from Kershaw's lineup (not surprisingly)....maybe one of your friends has a Storm and you can test the steel on that out.

Mines on the way too...crap, I'm just down loading the video now. I seen "switchblade" and now I'm nervous. Customs might get another parcel opener from me:mad:

Oh well tis the season for giving:rolleyes:

Should be okay. HOK BC carries them.

DonR? I wonder if that could be Don Rearic? :p The blades seems to open very well, isn't there a chance of accidental opening or closing when shifting the knife in your hands while stabbing, etc?

Hi and welcome to the party. Great pictures (not sure exactly what I'm looking at).

Sort of reminds me of a car jack!

That's really cool! I think I know what my next purchase will be.

Thanks for the great first post!

Peace.

Can this knife actually be readily opened and closed with one hand? The video makes it look dubious, but still coooohooooooooohooooool... :)

Wow, thanks for the pics and the video--this is one very cool and weird knife.
I like it already!

Allen.

Very nice pictures and very cool video and a warm welcome!

One question though: can you open the knive with one hand as well?

heh....I kinda like it. I like the secure lock up it supposedly has, as well as the novelty factor and the practical blade design.

That being said I'd be a bit nervous about all the moving parts, and attachments. As hard as I seem to be on knives I could imagine losing pins and screws pretty quickly off of a knife that appears to have so many of them.

Still gonna have to paw one and consider it first chance I get...:D

Yes, it can, it just takes a bit of practice. It's definitely different from most folding knives.

It is an interesting looking knife that does NOT appeal to me!! But, I am glad that those of you that have them, ARE happy with them!

Sorry, fella's while I've been away from bladeforums for awhile now
this knife is way overkill to me. Sure, it's an interesting enginerring
exercise it's way to complex for EDC. :thumbdn: :thumbdn:

I just got one of the serrated versions last week and I really enjoy it. I have been EDC it since the day I picked it up It takes a little bit to get use to the way it fuctions. I liked it so much that I found the rainbow blade version and ordered it to go along with my kershaw collection of rainbow knives. The bottle opener has came in handy and is easy to use
