Hi forum!
Oscar (from Argentina) and Kristin (from California) here, back to offer this knife with a nearly $75 discount as we clear out Oscar's current production to make way for some new work. Oscar forged this blade from 5160 and it features a very clear hamon line. It has a convex edge, which is pretty common here in Argentina and tends to be more resistant. The full length is 13.2 inches, blade 8 inches, spine width at heel .4mm.
Last time we posted this knife, someone asked about the design, and there's not a whole lot of sophistication to Oscar's answer: it is simply the form it took as he forged and crafted it, and he went with it. Every knifemaker has their own unique dialogue with the steel - their own process - and his tends to be dynamic, synthesizing his 10+ years of experience making knives with an ongoing investigation into knives new and old. He is open to what comes out of that, even if it's new or different.
For those of you who appreciate such things, this blade was forged in coal, the way knives were originally made.
Oscar carved the handle out of oak as well as a burl from the indigenous ñire tree here in Patagonia, then crafted the bronze guard, leather separators and bronze pommel. All the filework was done by hand. It comes with a nice leather sheath hand-worked by Kristin with a design based on leaves from local trees.
We'd prefer to sell this knife through our very modest Etsy shop, where we're offering forum members nearly $75 off with the code HUNTERPRICEDROP, which will be active through Sept. 3. We can do other payment methods as well, though. Shipping from Patagonia is on us!
Any questions feel free to ask! Thanks for looking!
