Price of a Randall

I am thinking of buying a Randall Military knife. It is the one that CS made a replica of. The price of the knife is $250.00 dollars. I was wondering if this was a good price?

Being one that is torn apart because having to choose between Randalls I yesterday visited CS site. There was aggravated model: Military Classic R1. It looked just as Randall model 1. I don't know whos design this is but now I fell that because Randall has been making this knife for 50?? years and making the name for it CS knife is ripoff. Using name R1 remind me for Randall model 1... I didn't despise CS before yesterday!

About the price. If you order #1 today directly from randall you get your knife after 19 months. Price for model 1 (blade lenght 5,6,7 or 8 inch, leather handle ) 225$ plus shipping (Randalls choise of shipping). If there are modifications to handle like it is made of stag add 25$ , of stag with finger grips 37$... Randall has a lot of options.

For 2$ you can order their catalogue.

250$ for a new Randall #1 sounds a good price. Normally they are between 280-300$. Dealers like A.G.Russel take that 50+$ commission.

My choise will likely be #5 or #3 with stag handles.

Hi All,
The Cold Steel "almost copy" of the Randall is well exicuted. Lynn T makes no bones about who made the origional, hence the name "R-1".
The knife usually sells to people that are interested in the pattern, but can not afford to buy the Randall until they are sure that they like the style.
Lynn T has sold a lot of Randalls.... After people try his copy, they usually save up to buy the origional.
I have a copy of the CS R-1 and several Randalls. The Randalls came first. The CS R-1 is a good value.

Dan, price for CS R-1 is 200-0.01$ which is so close to Randalls price that difference is neglible. Of course one doesn't have to wait 19 months or pay more to get one faster.

Your point of view is valid I admit, but still I fell that CS 'steals' something because all people do not know about randalls but many more see CS ads.

I wonder this model R-1 because although many CS designs do not look good for me they normally use their own designs.

Call nordic knives they are a large Randall dealer i got my #5 in two days no price hike.
I would love to own a #1.

Decado, I have two Randalls, a 40 year old 6" Sportsman's Bowie bought for $25 when I was 18 years old (my parents were horrified at the price!) and a 7" No. 1 from 1979. I would not sell either for $400 (folks, that's love, not reason!).

Contact Bruce Woodbury at bwoodbury@simplot.com he collects, buys, sells, swaps, and generally knows scads about these great knives and their history. Perhaps I can undo an unintentional wrong I did him some time back. I hope that you will find him helpful. Say "hello" for me if you do contact him.

I ordered a Model #16-7" Special Fighter #1
Which is a model #1 blade with a model #14 handle (I chose the border patrol style micarta handle).
I will more than likely carry this knife as a Infantryman in the Marines (I leave for MCRD S.D. in 12 days!).
IMHO, Randall did (and still does!) what Colt did for pistols...
My Mad Dog ATAK is like my H&K .45 USP Tactical, but my Randall #16 SP#1 is like a Colt .45...
you figure it out...
Jess

After I bought the #16 with standard finger grip, the only other fixed blade I ever looked at was Busse.

If you bought a Randall and decided not to keep it, you can sell it almost at cost. Can't say that for CS.
