Hi,
Would love to own a small sebenza but prices in Holland are absurd. It wil set you back at least a hefty 522 euros (wich is about 700 dollars)for a plane one. That's twice the money that Chris Reeve asks for it on his site. According to the representative in Holland, Adola, this is due to import taxes but also to all the costs he makes for his employes such as public health costs, payed holydays etc. etc. I think it's more likely that the high costs have something to do with his Mercedes Benz and the one of his wife and son and daughter. I can't imagine that Chris Reeve is happy with prices like that considering that he could sell more knives when the prices are more in line with those of other manufacturers. For instance, a buck mayo tnt sells for 330 euro's in Holland and (according to the Buck-site)336 dollars in the US. A strider PT costs 390 euro's and 300 dollars on the site of Strider. So for me no Sebbie for I refuse to pay for mr Adola's Merc.

Why not just get one from a US dealer if you want one? That's what I'll be doing shortly.

did that once, knife came in through customs and I had to pay a lot of money for taxes.

Why not pick one up here on the forsale forums?

Beside with the $ shriking against most currencies it's getting cheaper by the day.

Used Buck Mayo's are going for $125 or so.

I would think with the difference in currency, you would do very well buying from a US dealer--even with taxes.

buy one off the forums, ask the seller to declare it was a 'gift' and you should not have to pay the extra taxes. I buy from the USA all the time and Canadian Customs do not tax 'gifts'. Just a suggestion.

I remember I got my Buck/Mayo TNT for an online store, for around US$ 170 about 1 year ago... I've seen them now in around US$200...

It's a very nice knife actually; but nothing compares to a Sebenza... Back then I was thinking I can be set with just the B/M TNT and didn't need a real Sebenza... I was wrong.

Try the suggestion from RNST...

Best wishes.

Even with shipping costs, import tax, and VAT, I'm pretty sure you could get it for less than 522 Euro if you buy from a US vendor. That is especially true with the current exchange rate. The taxes would have to be as much as the actual cost of the knife before it would be better to buy from the dealer there.

You may want to check this site:

Poland is in the EU - would this mean that you would pay the same import duties and taxes? They have very good prices on Sebenzas.

First you complain that Adola charges more fore taxes etc... and THEN you complain that if you import yourself you have to pay taxes?

The truth is you pay the taxes anyhow, so better start accepting it.

You got me there Jos but of course I accept taxes. Apart from the one time I ordered a knife in the US (long ago) I always buy my knives over here (and thus accept that I pay taxes etc.) as I'm not familiair with ordering abrought. On the other hand, importtaxes don't explain that a Sebbie does about 1.6 time the price in euro's compared to dollars where most other manufacturers go for 1 to 1.

You are all right, saying that he better orders one in the US. But, what about people that walk into a store here in the Netherlands, and see a Sebbie for 700 dollar. Nobody will buy them. That is bad for Chris Reeve. I know at least 5 people that want a Seb, but don't want to order it in the US, and don't want to pay for Mr. Adola his Mercedes.

Private packages between the EU countries are not assessed taxes. So what interferes to buy more cheaply in EU? In Poland or in France or in other EU country? Add the postage and all this it more cheaply, than yours 500 euros. :)

Here example.: small Sebi Meteor Shower - 319 EUR

During the time you guys where complaining about the price of a sebenza, one sold here on BF for $250.

I already have one:D Bought it second hand for about 250 dollar. And I understand what you are saying, but some people only buy in stores, and here in Holland the prices are way to high.

you could also buy second hand from in the EU, they come up on britishblades fairly often at ok prices, maybe £180 for a large plain one

I just got a Mnandi for a total of EUR 245 (incl. shipping) via a befriended dealer in the US ... better then the EUR 590 that Adola charges ... Arrived in less then a week in that safe USPS envelope in my mailbox in Den Haag.

Hey, I could have lost one in the mail and still be out cheaper. :)

Adola's, (and all other Dutch shops) have silly prices on Chris Reeve Knives. But, you can't blame them. Turnover is probably extremely slow, and they might have well bought the inventory when the dollar was much stronger to the EURO, and yes, they have to cover a lot of other costs as well.

Shoot me a PM to see if I can help you out getting one ...

Ted

Happened to me too but still the price was 360 Euro for a small Classic, tax and all.
Quite a bit cheaper then Adola's price.
