Price of Sebenza

Hello, You should most certainly purchase one of these fine knives. They have the unique classification of being between custom and production in quality. The fact is that you don't get this kind of precision and workmanship in some customs that are three times the cost. This company has one of the most customer friendly attitudes that I have ever dealt with and they back their product totally. As far as the cost... well you get what you pay for. Some people say that this knife (sebenza) is ugly and not a stylish folder. I find it very good looking and it has that tough look that makes it the Hummer/ M16/ Bradley Tank of the folder world.

It is simply a very tactical knife that works superbly. Built with simplicity and strength. Regarding the cost you can sell it and still retain a decent resale value, if you end up keeping it for several years it will gain value. You can't go wrong in my opinion.

This topic must come up every month. Here is the low-down:

If you think it's too much, don't pay it. That's the only way a free market economy will lower the price on an article: Either because demand is not high enough, or the competition or another distributor is offering a lower price for the same goods.

If anyone is paying for it, then that's its value in the current market. If Chris wants to charge $600, and everybody keeps paying, he has every right.

So if you really want to lower his prices, organize a world-wide boycott. However, since his knives are so GOOD, I doubt that would ever materialize. Most of us, after we cough and sputter and complain about spending $350 for a knife, turn right around and buy one or two more before the year is over.

Crazy, or the realization that this is some seriously good hardware?

I happen to be current on this as I posted a wish to buy the other day.
My best offer, so far is $250., carried, not used, with belt sheath. I don`t know how you do that.
I intend to abuse it, so do not care much about a scratch or two.
The best dealer offer, which is the classic,(that would be better with gloves, right?), is $275. with sheath.
The highest dealer offer was $305. firm. No sheath.
I will buy at least two. That is my policy.
It pays to have a spare set up the same.
Is the net not great? Thanks Ike and DARPA.

Correction: I just had a dealer offer of $310.,no sheath. That is the top now.

FNG, Ghost6 or Warrier 11? Which one is it? I mean you want to be a member, be a member. Why are you on a posting frenzy and attacking so many people?

What is it? Did I offend you in another life?

I got my first Sebenza about a week ago.
They're hard to get over here (the Netherlands) but I found one !
It's a plain small one that was made in 1998.
I just had to have one and I carry it everyday. I'm not putting it behind glass, I'll use it as much as possible eventhough it was very expensive !
Here it comes:
I paid the equivalent of 550 US dollars for it ! No regrets !

Get one ...

I paid £345 for my Large Classic 6-50 Sebi.

I think that works about the same!

And some called me a Troll with a flamethrower. I put MY money where MY mouth is!

Absolutely! I had a Large plain and sold it about 9 months ago and it hurt the worst of any knife sale. Finally got a new Classic Large and it is perfect. The G2 sheath is the ultimate finishing touch and this one will be buried with me! Don't know if anyone else mentioned it but the resale is the other great thing with these blades. As mentioned, the cheapest price normally around here is about $250 so if you can buy one from a Dealer at $310 and you use it for awhile and don't like it or can't afford to keep it then you're only looking at a partial loss of $55 at the worst!

I'm still looking for my next mark in the CRK line!

I'm tired of people whining about the price of the Sebenza. It's only the finest folding knife in the world, gezuz cris. Just get one and ALL other folding knives will seem lacking in many areas (even so called custom knives, I know cause I had many, and sold them) such as lock strength, type of steel, the fact that you can take it apart!, attention to detail, fit and finish is as good is it's gonna get, and it has the best lateral strength for any folder due to it's over sized washers. BTW, I just got yet another Large Sebenza and I noticed that the ball detent on the blade is wider now. Before, the ball detent was just a small hole, now it's a big crater. When the blade is slightly opened, the crater acts as a spring and closes the knife. Very cool! Another reason to get a Sebenza, it keeps improving!! Oh and the new pocket clip is awesome as well. The dent in the middle of the clip acts as a lock. It's just the perfect length to cover the top part of a lot of pants. This design on a pocket clip is ingenous, let alone the design of the sebenza it self. I'm tired of companies such as Benchmade putting ads in magazines saying that there attention to detail and quality control is the best, my arse.

I've got three. My first one was the large NICA Sebenza tanto. It made me so happy that I had to get another, but the large is a little big so I got a small one. Then, when the small NICA Sebenza tanto came out, I got that one too. I love the matching set.

I've been carrying a small for a couple years now. Had a large last year and traded it off (doh!). Finally picked up a new polished large last week and I'm not looking back. Selling off some custom folders since I won't be needing them anymore.

Hey, KAJNIN's right about the ball detent being changed. I just got a new large CGG Sebenza yesterday and after reading his post I took a close look at mine....I like it!
biggrin.gif
It does seem to make a difference (I thought it was just because it was new).

I didnt have the $$$ to buy a new one, so I traded my plain Sebenza plus cash to upgrade to this one. There will be more to come in the future though....Great Knives guys, they ARE worth the $$$.

With so much praise and so many sold; why does this question keep coming up?

I really don't understand.

All I can say is if you have the money buy one.

First I bought a large carried but not used (saved $50).
smile.gif

Then a lighty used small (also saved $50).
smile.gif

Then a new plain Umfaan for the plain ZULU TRIO (Z3), which I also use.
biggrin.gif

Then a small wood inlay which I don't us.

It's just to pretty.

I would still like to get at least two more; a small CGG Solar Wind and a small Classic.

Are they worth it?

Some will debate and argue that a purchase should be a purchase of a custom over a "benza." Others will say the same, but for other high end production blades over a "benza." And some will even take a stance and express their fervor for low end productions over a "benza."

Keep in mind....like every other knife purchase ~ it's a personal choice! ~ ~ ~ Your choice ! ! !

It all depends on your gut feeling and the amount of $$ in your pockets!

And yes, you can pick one up (in exceptional shape) for $250 (and sometimes less).......

Are they worth it ? ? ? Me personally....I strongly believe that they're worth the $$.

Well said, Gig!

Funny thing is that regardless of the type of knife in question, why is it always compared againt the Sebbie? Could it be that somehow, regardless of personal likes or dislikes, it serves as a benchmark as to what defines a great knife
biggrin.gif

They are definitely worth every penny IMHO, as long as you purchase with the intent to use one. While you see a lot of Sebbies for sale, very rare is it to see a well used one come up. Those looking to be impressed by the beauty of a knife should look elsewhere as they may be disappointed with the plain model and choose get rid of it. Those who buy them to use them, learn to appreciate the details that truly make the Sebenza a great knife and choose to hang onto them. I just happen to be a member of the second camp

Words of advise. If you buy it, use it. You will only like it better if you do.

A guy I once knew in the Real Estate game told me that value, or the value of something, is established by what someone is willing to pay for something.

Some people like to buy a knife brand spanking new from an authorized dealer (or CRK direct), and from the constant backlog it would seem that there are quite a few of them. Some people want to save a buck or two because they are not worried about the "newness" or the relationship, they just want the knife. Hell, some people (many in my family) would look at a $345 knife and think you were crazy as heck!

Bottom line? I wouldn't pay jack squat for a gold watch. Why? I don't like gold watches. But I do like knives. And I want to have the satisfaction that I have a top quality knife every time I use a knife. So I'll pay the price!

I didn't buy my Sebbie brand new, got it on the forums at a lower price. I've developed a relationship with CRK through service to that knife, and now I would buy direct from them. Buyer satisfaction I guess.
