Price redaction in sales threads

Should prices be redacted in knife exchange after items are sold?

I’m against the practice for sure. But, I think people do it so they keep the knowledge advantage over newer people. Since I get email notifications of new posts, I keep them all in a folder so I can refer back to the original
asking prices.
I just realized you have to look at the actual email and indeed, the first post in the for sale thread is in the email, showing the prices.

If the post stays up and the price is listed, who is to say that that is what you paid? I understand (and accept) your personal choice, but I think some assumptions have to be in place for someone else to "know" what you paid.
I always ask the seller to redact the price only, no matter what I paid. I don't care if the rest of the post stays up.
To date not one of the many, many sellers I have dealt with have refused and most say they do it automatically.

If the seller and buyer both agree to leave it up so be it......their choice. My choice is to keep the history of my purchases private.
Many here not posting in this thread also choose privacy, and for those that do they should always be allowed to do so.

This must be the 20th or so thread on this subject I have read in my 18 years here. Fortunately Spark has reiterated choice many times and that continues to this day.

I am on the same page as you, my friend.

As a collector enthusiast, I keep most purchases to DM and rarely post in the sales thread. I also like to keep a lower profile.

As a craftsman, I usually edit my prices out, especially if it is a one-off. I never know if the price of materials are going to change…so a year from now, I may have to raise my price and I don’t want folks to think I’m trying to “rip them off” because the same thing was less expensive 2 years ago.

That said, I’m glad that we still have choice here on BF.

Thank you Sir.👍:)

Like you I conduct most of my purchases by DM and I rarely post on an open sales thread if I can avoid it. There is nothing nefarious to my actions. I just choose to make my purchases quietly and privately.

While I’m all in on the privacy concerns, I can still wish for a readily available price history. Nothing nefarious is meant by that. Besides, those with nefarious intentions can scrape the data from this site before it’s redacted. Safer to assume they already have and are actively doing so.

With respect as has previously been stated prices are really only valid for a very short time.
I just posted a pic of a Reese Bose BPT that I paid $650-00 for. The price now..........well it ain't $650! ;)

Oddly enough, I am aware of a RB stag shadow that just sold for $625 within the last few days. Price is still viewable, but I don't think anybody is expecting that is the new norm. Cheers.

Prices should remain, period, like that other platform. And deleting all the content of a post once the knife has sold should not be allowed. That is annoying AF. It’s like they are trying to hide something. But this ain’t my forum, so it is what it is.

IMHO, as long as the buyer is happy it's up to the discretion of the seller.

I appreciate it when sellers leave prices.

And have others noticed that some initial sales posts don't have the prices listed (and must be edited in afterwards)? So some email notifications don't have prices.

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but I’m curious as to why prices in the knife exchange get redacted after the sale? The first time I sold a gun on the bullseyeforum, I redacted my price after the gun sold, as I’d seen being done on other forums and I got spanked by the mod for doing so. The mod explained that they require the sales price to remain as it gives buyers and sellers a guide as to what market prices are, both reasonable and absurd. After being corrected, I had to agree. So, what say you?

Thanks, Dave

This has been discussed so many times that the horse carcass is now unrecognizable. A search of the Tech support forum will bring up multiple discussions.
It is up to the seller to determine whether he wants to leave the price visible after the sale.

> All deals are between the buyer and seller. BF only provides a place to post notices. So what they work out is up to them, and isn't anybody else's business.
> The exchange is a place for buying and selling. It is not a price guide. Knife values change over time as items change in popularity and availability. So what a knife sold for 5-years ago is not a good guide to what it will sell for today. Knife prices vary a lot more than gun values.
> We do not have the staff to enforce leaving or removing prices. So a change to the existing exchange rules is not going to happen. Period.

SECTION 3 - Rules for Everyone -
8. Sellers can keep or delete the prices in their thread, it is their prerogative.
