Looking to sell a Bill Mains Adirondack knife that I picked up recently. It's a gorgeous knife with a lot of history behind it, just not my regular style and I'm sure there is someone out there who would appreciate it more.
Here's what I know:
This is a presentation quality piece created by Bill Mains and I believe engraved by him as well, rather than Bryson Gwinnell who later took over for him. It was made before the company switched to Heritage Custom Knives so it only has "Mains" and "59" stamped on the bolster along with his buffalo stamp.
It was hand engraved and made around 1974 based on the order form from his shop and is made of M-2 high speed steel with a RH of 63, a process which Bill helped to pioneer. The handle is made of India Sambar Stag.
Bill was a master engraver and worked for both Colt and Ithaca. It is noted that Bill has engraved more Second Generation Single Action Army Colt revolvers that any other engraver.
The knife comes with the original box and sheath, along with the order form from Bill Mains Custom Knives and G&R Tackle, as well as an article written about him at the time.
There is some spotting on the blade, and the button on the sheath has turned green, so it could use a bit of cleaning up. I tried to capture everything in the pictures but if you need any more let me know I'd be happy to provide them.
Price is 350$
