Hi everyone! I've been making knives for just a few months now, and this is the first set of knives I have made that I'd like to try to sell. More importantly, I would appreciate any constructive criticism. I have learned so much from this forum over the last few months and I greatly appreciate everyone's generosity with their knowledge.

These knives are the same profile, but have different swedge styles and different primary bevel angles. Both are flat grinds, I suppose scandi style, but I did put a secondary bevel on them so I guess not scandi in the purest sense. The black handle is ground 40 degree inclusive, while the lava handle is ground 30 degree inclusive.

Both are 440C heat treated and tempered in my Evenheat kiln. I left the flats scaled from heat treat for the look, which I thought was cool for this type of knife. Knives are 7 inches OAL, while cutting edge is just over 3 inches. Both are 1/8 inch thick at the spine.

Black one has some minor scratches in the scale on one of the flats, as can be seen in the photo, but it looks like it goes with the scaled finish, so I don't think it takes away from the overall look of the knife.

I'd like to sell these for $65 each. Price now reduce to $50 each! I hope you like them. Thanks for looking, and I'd appreciate any constructive criticism, as I am just starting out. Thanks all!

Congrats to your first knives! I am glad your choice was 1/8 inch for a scandi grind, I think to actually have a usable knife, that should be the thickest stock to use. I would however stick with either a pure, flat scandi grind or a standard primary and secondary grind with thin "edge before sharpening".

They look pretty good, but I think you're hurting yourself with your photos. Make sure you are getting clear photos showing as much of the knife as possible with as few pictures as possible. Also, make sure they're rotated correctly. They look good though; keep it up.

Thanks Andy! I probably will move to a standard primary grind for these knives. I love the scandi grind, but have plans to do a bushcraft in the near future, so I'll use the scandi on that.

Thanks so much DJ! I agree with you about the pictures. My wife said the same thing!:) I'll try to redo the pictures if I have time tonight. Thanks again for the feedback!

I would like to know why you have scale ? Did you not wrap the blades in SS foil ?

How are you doing your heat treat ?

Your off to a very good start, keep up the good work.

Hi Jack - I don't use foil. I know some folks do to keep the air contact down. For 440C I heat treat in Evenheat kiln to 1880 degrees for 20 minutes then quench in oil. Then temper for 2 hours at around 300 degrees. I don't use any anti-scale compound either. Just experimenting now.

Love the profiles, love the grinds.
