I scored a knife I’ve wanted for awhile but had given up on finding, but that means I have to make up some funds. I’ve got three users here. Please note the description and ask any questions you like.
1. GEC 92 Eureka Jack in OD green micarta from the latest run. This came as a great knife and I think I’ve only managed to make it better, if you like a slicey knife, anyway. I’ve removed some material to thin the overall geometry of both blades and put a more acute angle on the cutting edge—all free hand with water stones. It has several enjoyable hours of labor in it to make it extremely sharp and it has a nice patina going on the main blade. If you don’t mind the character marks of reprofiling and using, this one will make a great user for you. 5 pull on the primary. 5-6 on the secondary. Very good walk and talk on both. Comes with tube. Yours for$80. Now $70. SOLD
2. GEC 71 in O1 tool steel. You don’t find these much and GEC doesn’t use 01 anymore. I’ve also put several hours into this one, thinning the blade and making the cutting edge more acute; and sanding the handle to slim the profile. It isn’t slimmed down as the ones you’ll get from a professional mod guy, but it feels a lot better in hand than it did, in my opinion. Like the 92, this 71 is a slicer and will outperform a factory edge, if you don’t mind patina and some reprofiling marks. Smooth 6 on the pull, good action; maybe a touch sluggish on the close. Comes with tube. Yours for $80. SOLD
3. I bought this one on a whim. Sheffield barlowish clip point. I think the covers are rosewood but I’m not sure. It has a blemish in the wood and a small crack on the pin at the butt on the pile side, but they seem cosmetic problems only. The grind behind the edge was too thick for my liking and the factory edge was rather dull. I’ve reprofiled the flats and put a nice acute edge so that it slices very well now. The blade is a bit odd in that it sits centered when closed, but angles slightly to the right when opened as you look from the butt end down the blade well. It doesn’t seem to affect the performance and the lock up and action are very good. Somewhat stiff pull on this cam tang, maybe a seven, but really nice snap. Yours for $50. SOLD
Package deals:
I’ll sell the lot for $185, the two GECs for $150, or one GEC and the Sheffield for $120.
