I have a CRK Sebenza CGG Fastened (lightly used!) up for sale on the exchange, asking what I see to be a fair price but I may be completely off about it as after posting twice I have gotten no interest! I know that it's definitely not a highly sought after Sebenza but still. I have it listed for 395.. Am I just totally off on the price?
Thanks

yea and typically right before blade show it becomes the buyers market. Everyone selling to fund blade and not as many buying.

IMO the CGG models are a niche market, their appeal is going to be a much smaller audience. You may have to post it several times but it will sell.

I recently sold a xm18 3.5" with copper standoffs for $510. A couple years ago I would have easily been able to get $700 for it. I think the market is split between the production knives or high end customs now. A lot of the guys like myself who use to buy $400-500 mid techs are now buying $1000+ customs instead. The mid techs just aren't as highly sought after anymore. Then again sebenzas never really seemed to hold their value. I always took a huge hit when I sold mine.

I agree with the Logical One. I see Sebenzas go for $50-100 less than new often. I don't think you are too far off but it might take time.

If no one is willing to pay your price...it is too high. Economics 101.

Your knife truly is overpriced.

Like someone said, custom graphics are very niche. Either wait for someone looking for that graphic or make it down below non graphic Sebenzas for a quicker sale.

I would not pay more for a CGG Sebenza than a plain.

Fair price but if you really want it moved it would not be bad to drop the price after it sits awhile. Again not a good time for buyers with Blade this close.

Yeah I figured with how things are today and Blade so close I might have a little trouble selling it. Well thanks for all yalls input! Appreciate it!

I have been watching prices on cgg sebenzas for the last couple months. I have recently seen a large Celtic go for $365, a large enigma go for $370 (but that one took a while) and I have seen a large fastened that was used and a little scratched up go for about $330. Your current asking price is fair but if someone doesn't buy it for your asking price post it somewhere else. Prices on ebay tend to be higher than the exchange.

IMO the fastened sebenza isn't attractive at all. Its like having a sebenza with acne. So you might have to be patient in order to get the price you want or lower the price a bit more to get a taker sooner.

I would argue that's because there are many more Sebenzas on the market sitting in dealers' shops waiting to go to buyers at factory retail pricing. Some sellers need quick cash, some think their well carried knife is worth 95% of retail. Some buyers who have been saving for ages may think $30 off retail is a great deal, some buyers would rather just pay $30 more and get one bnib from a dealer. If something happened to the factory and production was stopped for awhile, resale on these would skyrocket overnight. Just like if Rick one day decided to control what dealers sold XM's for, resale value would plummet compared to current prices.

Resale of CRK seems to be based on a combination of condition, birthdate (specific date or older ones with features that some deem more desirable such as older Mnandis and Umnumzaans), and packaging. Some will pay well over bnib retail for a certain birthdate. I agree, the CGG is a niche, and it's just one of those right place, right time things where a buyer stumbles into your ad one day looking for exactly what you have. Patience, grasshopper. I don't know what typical resale of CGG's are, but just because no one bites doesn't necessarily mean it's overpriced. The right person has to find it because I'll assume most aren't going to put a fancy one in their pocket everyday.

I've taken a bigger hit than I wanted on almost every Sebenza I've sold
Just be patient. If it doesn't sell, list it again in two weeks (the required waiting period).
I've been surprised on several occasions how things have been immediately snatched up the second time I've listed them.

I will have to agree that the exchange has been affected from Blade being around the corner. I tried selling a BNIB Large CRK Diamond Plate and it was listed for a fair Price. Price is $485.00 new from Dealer, My asking price was way lower. It is in the same Condition as it came from CRK Mint. No Takers, Oh well decided to keep it.

I had a small diamond plate that I bought brand new for $435. It wouldn't sell so I ended up dropping the price down to $275 before somebody finally picked it up. I practically gave that one away.

One thing that pisses me off about some sellers is the fact that they overprice their items and are so stubborn to drop the price even after several weeks of them getting no hits on it.

I have actually seen some sales threads last half a year (on another forum) because of this. My rule is if I don't see my items getting any hits every 3 days I will drop the price down until it sells.

People who are stingy in dropping their prices after a long time of no hits are just wasting their time and the bandwidth of bladeforums. If you're not getting any hits you need to drop the price period.

only you can determine price, I have always found you very fair. I do feel that $325.00 moves the knife, but only because that is what I have paid for similar in the last 6 weeks. I feel you as a person and seller are worth more, sadly people don't care until SOL .

I agree with all of the above...

Just wanted to add that I have noticed a decline in what people are willing to pay for any knife (production, Mid-Tech, Custom) since very late last year.

There are always certain makers and models that will get top $, however when it comes to Seb's in general, especially CGG's, there are, A: lot's out there B: Graphics are individual taste.

My advice would be to drop the price by 10% every 3 days until you sell it, if you really want to move it and are willing to take less $ than you really want to. Or, just put 'best offer' and see what people are willing to pay.

Economics 101 sucks, but anything is only worth what people at a given time are willing to pay for it.

Yeah, you know I've noticed that as well. A few years ago the price of a lot of high end productions and midtechs were skyrocketing but now I have noticed that they have dropped down quite significantly.

For example I now see SNG's sell for around $300 to $350 and back then they would sell for more like $375 to $450. The same with Sebenzas, and a few other still highly sought after knives. I wonder what's the deal with that? Either way I don't mind. I really never sell knives for profit, I just do it more as a hobby to use the money to buy other knives and toys. :D
