Hi Ive been forging knifes now for my self for a few years now and im looking to sell a few.
What are the going prices for a Damascus knife say a latter pattern using 1095 and 15n20. Im thinking for a 8 inch chef knife, 100 layer latter pattern knife would be 130 min? That too cheap.... hope you can help me thanks!! :)

It is going to be hard for someone who doesn't have an established name to start selling knives (pattern welded especially) for $150+...

I know if I am going to drop that amount of coin, it would be for something that is more likely to be accurately described and made to specifics.

How does the general populace guage whether the "new guy" is a good smith, isn't going to have inclusions and spotty welds, might not stick around since he doesn't have much on the line.
A lot of questions have to be asked prior to jumping into the deep end.

I wish you the best and I don't wish to cast doubt, but I would suggest small things like, learning the correct vernacular prior to listing items for sale.

On top of those points, I don't believe you can mention sales, ask for a valuation, et al, without a gold or higher membership.

ok thanks fro the heads up didn't know it was a abused question. I just didnt want to screw my self is all. ill have to look else where.

Personally, i think you found the perfect spot.
Browse through Knifemakers for sale section of the Exchange to gauge where your work stands. Then upgrade to a knifemaker and let them loose. Youd be hard pressed to find a better outlet to sell your wares and the free knowledge you can gain here is invaluable.

Welcome!

Money is relative to the person spending it. I would spend $130 just to find out.

More power to you. But most people are a little smarter with their money and aren't going to drop over $100 on a Damascus knife based solely on the information from the OP. No offense to him but if he doesn't know the difference between "knife" and "knives" and has to ask about pricing without doing his research which would provide him those answers without even needing to ask many are all ready weary. You want to roll the dice that's fine. But it certainly wouldn't be the advice I would dish out to everyone.

I wouldn't dish out any advice to everyone. I'm telling you (and the op) that $130 isn't much of a consideration for at least some of us. I'm certainly not alone, and I'm not one of the super rich. There are many, many folks, some of whom are into knives, that can out-spend me.

I'm saying that even if I had all the money in the world I think it would be rather ridiculous to spend that much on a whim without knowing anything about the knife. Its just a bad gamble. Taking risks and being irresponsible with money are two different things whether one can afford it or not. Besides the person you quoted wasn't speaking for you or for me. They were speaking in general as it applies to most rational people. I think we are seeing you aren't always a rational thinker. That's not a dig, but an observation.

Nobody is always rational. I used to say the same thing about money, but that changes. You'll see. (Well, at least I sincerely hope you see. That's an honest "Best Wishes".)

Time is far more important than money.
