Or his good pal actually sold him a Spoderkyo Neative 5.12 with Maxipad steel and grey DRM handles.I think you're either full of Bravo Sierra or your pal Joyce is violating Spyderco's MAP policy and will lose authorized dealer status.
Map is just an inaccurate acronym we use to talk about the subject. The actual terms in the agreement are much more complicated.Sounds like exactly how it works .. the A in MAP stands for 'advertised' .. how do you think it works?
... I thought you could sell the knives lower, but not advertise lower than MAP?

In the past, we have discussed that calling what we often call "map" knife pricing is an over simplification of what is actually happening. I do think that if a dealer regularly sells below the price a manufacturer requires them to sell at they jeoprodize remaining an authorized dealer. Obviously a one time deal is different.I've dealt with MAP before, never saw an agreement (MAP Or otherwise) that keeping product for your self, giving to family, giving deals to people (unadvertised) is ground for losing a dealer license and i think its far more likely to get OP's deal rather than a dealer lose their license for giving him that deal. But of course i'm open to seeing how convoluted these 'MAP' agreements are if you have a source![]()
I found what I consider a dynamic price variance with some Spyderco products. First of all, I'm a big fan of that brand, and I wish I owned more. My recent model is the folder below.
However, in checking out other models I found a knife that could be the twin brother of the one I have. The only difference appeared to be a button near the pivot, which could be an activation device for an automatic model.
It was the pricing that got me. My knife, which also has a gray grip and a Maxamet blade cost me 54 bucks from my dealer, and I think he tossed in shipping.
However, the model showcased, the Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight Knife Gray (3.375" Maxamet Stonewash), is marked 203 dollars. That means that the "model change" for the same blade and handle was upped by 150 bucks.
Even as an automatic, that seems steep for a coil spring and an aluminum button. What do you guys think?

knoefz--I think you got a hell if a deal with a lightweight Macamet Native 5 fir only $54,-Maybe even a mistake from the stire?
Well, there you might be right. I buy from a husband/wife sales team that works out of their home. Yes, they offer me deals, but not knocking off 3/4s of the price for a knife like this.
I call them often as I am an avid collector. If the price was charged in error, I will make it good.
Does this team live in Jersey and you have to discuss stuff by the running washing machine? Do they have cases of knives and electronics in their garage? Asking for a friend in the government.
No, no...it's all in the back of a blue van. "Hey man, we have this primo audio equipment leftover from a job and need to sell it...."
