I have amassed a rather large knife collection. Large enough where I have actually had problems selecting a knife for the day, or week, because I would just get caught up fondling them all again and eventually a half an hour would pass and I've used far too much time appreciating each individual knife. It is a beautiful problem I very much appreciate having to deal with, but nevertheless, it is a problem...
So to assist the issue, I selected one single knife from the foremost brands of my collection. There are a few brands missing, but the Team was already starting to get overly large anyways. These are the distilled, the elite, the most highly refined representatives of their respective brands (at least out of the options I own):
Hinderer XM 18
Sebenza 21
ZT 0606CF
Griptilian in S30V sporting AWT red aluminum scales
Kershaw Blur, S30V, blue ano, silver twill carbon fiber
Lionsteel KUR
Freeman 451 BLF
Kizer MJOLNIR
Reate Horizon C
Cold Steel Recon 1 (may yee CTS XHP blades rest in peace)
Spyderco Sliverax
Boker Hitman in D2
WE Knives Blitz
Real Steel Thor
Protech TR4
The Working Man is a redundancy not representing Cold Steel so much as joining the Team to fill the role of Super Beater. It's reliable, cheap, light as hell, thin 'n' slicy, and packs a Triad Lock: all the things a proper Super Beater is made out of.
The Kizer Ophid is a redundancy as well. It does not represent the brand so much as joins the Team to provide "a base of fire." It's the Ophid's job to provide the EDC base upon which the rest of the team stands. It is made out of great materials, but I also won't be worried to beat it up. It is light, and of a more practical EDC size than, say, the 0606, or the Recon 1, etc. The Ophid represents what I like to call "high end functionality," bringing the performance of a high end knife, but shirking the fancy-looking stuff to save cost. Therefore, as I typically carry two knives with me everyday, it will likely be the Ophid and one of the others selected at random.
It looks like quite a fun collection. Eclectic. Definitely covering all my bases from Tank to Beater. It might lack Pocket Jewelry factor, but I am fine with that.
So, now I ask you: who's on your team? Do you rotate one knife for everyday of the year? Do all your cutting tasks rest on the shoulders of one, single badass knife that never leaves your side? Post a pic!
