Primary Rotation: Who's On Your Team?

I don't have a rotation. I'll carry the same knife for a couple months or I may switch it out for something else after only a day or two. I have "a few" knives & I bought them all to be users, but some; like both my CRKs, a couple of the Hinderers, PM2 & Manix LW; just seem to be the only ones that get carried, no matter what "new favorite" knife I buy. One that's always with me though is an Alox Cadet. They're slim, useful & I hardly notice it in my pocket, so there's no reason not to have it with me.

someone here is not a fan of flippers :D
Lol maybe true. I just haven’t picked one up yet. Used to have the Boker/ Sniper blade works and really liked it, but so did my Dad...... catch and release. I didn’t realize I don’t have any. Maybe I’ll pick one up soon:

You're the best kind of Real Life Video Game Character there is. Tons of stuff in your pocket when you wanna go "Use X on Y" and an adorable sidekick. What's not to love. :D

I don't have a long enough list to choose from to be in your (awesome) predicament OP, but I do understand that feeling of not knowing which one to grab sometimes.

From most frequent to least:
Spyderco M4 Military
Spyderco s110v Manix 2
Spyderco s30v PM2
ZT 0909 (s35vn) ..... really impressed with this knife it's just too bulky to carry all the time

I love my M4 Military, it is just a bit big for some occasions (although it rides surprisingly well in the pocket). If I am lucky enough to grab one of the M4 PM2s released this month, I would imagine that knife would be my EDC almost all the time!

I also had a ZT 0450CF, really liked it but ended up giving it away as well. Seems like every flipper, auto, or assisted I end up letting go.
My Rat Worx is equally tied to my Protech autos. If you haven't tried either..there is something IMHO, that no other auto can replicate.

With you on the auto's, but those are also illegal here. so that does mean everytime i carry one i have the thought of carrying an illegal 'weapon' in the back of mind.

A good flipper just feels great to me.

It depends on what my anticipated uses are for that day and what I am wearing.
That said I typically have a tough use blade and a slicer, with a SAK sometimes pulling double duty for the latter.
My 9-5 is S & T and with summer weight suits I'm not carrying the 4-May, Adamas or heavier Emersons but if I'm wearing tactical cargo pants or jeans then just about anything goes depending on what I anticipate doing that day.

Putting aside SAKs and multi-tools my folder rotations include these stalwarts:

An Emerson - with the CQC-8 or CQC-10 generally getting the most attention;
Spyderco Pacific or Endura
RAT 1
CS American Lawman
CS Voyagers (Large or Medium)
ZT 630

Though I like them just as much (if not more) these get more time in the drawer than in my drawers:

Sebenza
4-Max
Adamas
CS Talwars
Buck 110
CS Voyares XL

OP: I struggle with selection SAKs and Multi-Tools as much as the folders!

Still have my protech TR-4. Can seem to trade it to save my life. Lol I like it but I’m wanting a spydiechef really bad.

Top 3 I carry are sebbie, SAK and GEC 72, along with the primary carry choice of the day. It was mainly my cruwear manix2 until I lost it last week.

All users tho, except the Alan Davis slip joint is reserved for nicer outings.

I really miss my manix and will probably pick up another soon. 20180302_122204-2365x1330.jpg
Yesterday I was having a hard time making a decision, and only ended up taking my SAK and GEC because I forgot to make a choice.

Are you talking about the green handled folder ?

That's actually a $4 Ozark trail knife that was a gift.
I won't say it's the best thing ever, but it's actually a solid knife that takes a razor edge.
It would serve the average non knife person perfectly well to open mail boxes...ect.

I bought one Christmas 2017, after I had to give up a knife to TSA.
I liked it enough to carry it everyday for 5 months. It is the knife that made me want to “get into knives”. The gateway knife.

2 complete rotations including watches.

I have amassed a rather large knife collection. Large enough where I have actually had problems selecting a knife for the day, or week...

So, now I ask you: who's on your team? Do you rotate one knife for everyday of the year? Do all your cutting tasks rest on the shoulders of one, single badass knife that never leaves your side?

First my rotation strategy, which might even be helpful to you. Rather than worry about whether knives get used or not, if it earns a spot into my rotation then I lay them all out and arrange them into a certain order which can be somewhat random or can have a strategy such as alternating colors or scale materials, or lock types, or whatever. Then on Monday morning I pick the next one on the list and carry it for 2 or 3 days. Then Wednesday or Thursday I pick the next one and carry it to the end of the week. I keep going all the way through the rotation. I was carrying a knife all week but this took me too long to go through the entire rotation so I decided to carry 2 per week. I have a few others that I use on weekends so I choose from them depending on what I'm going to be doing that day. Right now I have approximately 8 in my weekday rotation and 4 in my weekend group.

(I started this rotation system with watches. Right now I have 6 that I rotate through for weekday wear and 3 different ones that I choose from for weekends.)

Regarding brands- when I started I had a lot of Benchmades, and I tried some Kershaw, ZT, and even Buck. Now Spyderco models have forced almost all of the other brands out of my rotation, I only have one token Benchmade left.

Basic rotation

Buck 112 1992 vintage
Buck 112 5160 drop point in oak

Usually always have one of these two knives on me.

Other knives that's get added as I feel a need or want.

Buck 284 Bantam
Buck 285 Bantam
Buck 55
Cold Steel Prolite
Opinel #6
Opinel #8
Benchmade 550 Griptillian
Leatherman Wingman
Case medium stockman in jigged bone

Always usually have a folding utility knife on me when I'm working as well

Oh boy, necro-thread! Kinda. Considering it's nine months old, maybe it's in ripe-corpse territory, but I'll participate nonetheless.

My rotation currently consists of a Gerber EAB and a really worn, black SAK Classic. They do it for me, at the moment. Actually, my entire EDC can be had for around $30, excluding my phone. That's the two knives, a Fenix E01, a bandana, and a pocket comb. I am thinking of working a Spyderco Squeak into the mix, but haven't yet.

Slight resurrection, but a timeless topic. I’m in!

My EDC items:

The folder rotates, the rest remains the same. Sometimes, when I feel adventurous, I swap out the purple Keen for this:

Buck 110
Buck 110 LT Smoke Jumper (SK Blades SFO)
Buck 112 'Lil Jack' (SK Blades SFO)
Buck 301 Stockman (standard)
Buck 301 Stockman (2018 BF Forum Knife)
RR 1569 Moose
RR 603 Stockman

I keep a SAK Bundeswehr in my trike's tool bag.

Occasionally I'll carry a Colt or Case Canoe.
