I can't tell you what kind of wood this is because it was a cut off that I picked it up off the floor while visiting a wood turning friend. He didn't know either, but guessed at hickory. It is very hard and has great figure.
The reenactment guys tell me that the hook was commonly used to hang the knife over the edge of a possibles bag.
The knife looks uncomfortable in the hand but the hook does stay out of the way.
Forged from 1095
Flat grind with forged texture on the flats
Mystery wood handle dyed and treated with linseed oil
3 1/2 inch blade
