I have not done a GAW for a good while now and decided to "pay it forward" regarding this knife from Schatt & Morgan, which was so kindly gifted to me by my friend Dan (Parke1) a while back. I gifted a knife back to Dan and since I know how generous he is, I feel that he would absolutely agree with the "pay it forward" GAW. It is a large knife and not for the faint of heart or watch pocket collectors. I believe that this knife would make a fine addition to a collection of S&M knives. :)

Revision (March 19, 2015 - three knives added to the GAW, thanks to some very generous friends of mine !!! WOW !!!:eek::eek::D

What started out as one of my attempts to be humorous (see page 3) ended up with instant offers of donated knives. These guys never fail to amaze me !

Amended Rules - March 30th, 2015 - Post "I am in" and you are eligible for the knife GAW. The Final Four TC Barlow entry time has expired.

The rules:

1. Post your favorite picture of any knife that you own or have owned. Disregard former rule.

2. State what you like about the GAW knife or why you want it - do you collect S&M, collect sheep foot knives, etc.? Disregard former rule

3. Tell me which team might trounce (and by how many points) my beloved "Kentucky Wildcats" basketball team in the upcoming NCAA March Madness event.:D Disregard former rule

4. Open to all members who post regularly in traditionals or can be a new member to Blade Forums Traditionals.

5. We will pick the Winners of the GAW knives on Tuesday, March 31st, 2015. The method of selecting will be by random number.

The March Madness predictions have no bearing on the eventual winners.

6. Last, but not least - you cannot be a Christian Laettner fan !!!!!!!! :grumpy::grumpy::grumpy::D Disregard former rule

7. You do not have to know anything about basketball to win a knife - just state in your post that you do not follow basketball. ;) Disregard former rule

This is meant to be a fun GAW and no meanness allowed !!! :grumpy::D ( Well - I might take a little grief from some of you who support your favorite team avidly.:D)

This knife is in totally unused condition, comes with Paper work, Box, and its Sleeping bag:)

TC Barlow game added to GAW !!!

It will not be easy ! Primble does not like to give up TC Barlows, but, join in the fun and see if you can snatch one away from me. It might be a way to get rid of me for good if you win, as I might kick the bucket from sudden heart failure.;);):D:D:D

It is a TOUGH road to get to the Final Four and even TOUGHER to win the NCAA Championship, so this will be TOUGH, but, not as tough as it is for the teams to win the Championship trophy. The TC Barlow is your trophy and is yours if you get it all right. I have to admit that I feel pretty safe that none of you are that good "at your game" ! ;):D

The trophy - a like new, never used, walnut handled single spear TC Barlow in it's proper tube.

The RULES:

1. Starts today and runs until this coming Thursday at noon, or when the sweet sixteen begins. You can edit your post until noon on March 26th, 2015. :grumpy:

2. Allowed to enter: Anyone with at least thirty posts in Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades Forum. Donaters in this thread are eligible and encouraged to bring your best game, as well. ;):D

3. Name a traditional knife that you think could be considered worthy enough to win a knife design competition. Post a picture, if possible.

4. The challenge - you must choose correctly the teams that will make it to the Final Four and you must predict the Championship game teams and final score correctly.

Example:

Final Four:
Kentucky
North Carolina State
Gonzaga
Arizona

Championship game final score - Kentucky 82 - Gonzaga 74 :eek::eek::D:D

5. Must show good sportsmanship and let's try to keep in mind that all competing teams, from all areas of our nation, deserve our respect. ;):)

Best of luck and I feel purty safe that I get to keep my knife - stroking it now ! :grumpy::grumpy::D:p:p:p

I might add another knife if the thread proves to be a lot of fun, as intended. I have been known to add knives in a GAW. ;)

This is not an entry.. I just stopped by to ogle the beautiful knife.
Besides, I have no knowledge of basket at all.

Awesome giveaway!
Good luck to those of you who enter!

Thanks for doing the GAW, Primble. Very generous of you! Plus your threads are always fun reading.

1. I don't collect sheepsfoots in particular, but I sure do like them! :)

2. Why I would want that knife?: Besides the fact that my heart skipped a beat when I saw it? So Beautiful!
I was born in Pennsylvania, and it's been my intent to get a knife with a keystone shield someday. I always put it off, since the S&Ms seem kind of spendy when it's just the shield that appeals to me. That one, though? Yowza!

3. Which team? I admit I don't follow NCAA at all, :oso I will just say Texas, because I live in Austin. :p

Great GAW Rob!!!
I'm in.

1: Jared Oeser

2: I have a growing collection of Schatt & Morgan dollar knives. This would snuggle up right nice to those!

3: Are you kidding! NOBODY is beating our CATS....CATS....CATS!!!! BLUE....WHITE...BLUE...WHITE!!!

4::D

5: :D

6: I H*TE chr*st*an l*e*n*r!!!!. I can't even spell out his name.:thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:

1. Just picked up this beauty so this picture of it will be my favorite at least until the honeymoon period is over!
ttYHxyW.jpg

2. I like this knife because it has everything I don't usually desire but somehow I'm quite drawn to it. Vertical shield, multiple grooves in the bolster, opposing pulls, long pull and nick combo, polished blades, etched blades, jigged bone, all of my least favorites. But as a total package this S&M is quite attractive! I've also wanted to try an S&M for a while now, never held one before.
Does that say "042" on the pen blade? 42 is my lucky number...
Another reason I like this GAW is the pay it forward philosophy of which I am a big fan. If I win this one I likely will ogle the knife for a while before passing it on to a friend for real use.

3. I'll say the Badgers are going to crush your Wildcats! The first reason is because I grew up in Madison, so will always be a Badgers fan despite having attended a different University. Second is because the only way they'd face each other would be in the championship, so it at least means both our teams made it all the way!

4. I may not have a lot of posts, but I try only to add value with my replies and am an avid traditional knife lover.

I had to look up who Christian Laettner is so I can safely say I'm not a fan :)

1. May not be my favorite picture, but it's a knife I carry almost every day:

2. What I like about the S&M you're so generously putting up for grabs is the big sheepsfoot blade. I don't have a single knife with a sheepsfoot main blade (except a congress with 2 of them), but I seem to have been infected with the sheepsfoot disease that seems epidemic on The Porch recently. ;)

3. This third requirement is an amazing, coincidental opportunity for me! SportsCenter was on TV as I prepared for work this morning, and March Madness was of course a major topic. As I listened, I realized that my alma mater Purdue would face Kentucky on Saturday, assuming they both survive their first round games. And then I thought of Primble's love for his Wildcats, and I tried to figure out how I could offer him condolences. But Primble himself provides the perfect opportunity!! :D:eek::D Purdue 78, Kentucky 74!!! Even if I'm right, I'll concede that UK has had a marvelous season.

(And even if Purdue doesn't take down the 'Cats, there are a number of teams from the basketball hotbed state of Indiana that have the potential to meet and defeat Kentucky: Valparaiso in the second round, or Butler, IU, or ND in the regional finals. Hoosier Daddy, Kentucky??)

6. Not a Laettner fan, but I have even more hard feelings for Kyle Macy, who left Purdue to go slumming at UK!

Thanks for the opportunity, Primble! :D:D

The Badgers have a great team - we shall see. :)

Christian is most remembered for his last second shot that cost UK a Final Four appearance. He also intentionally stomped (granted it was lightly) on the chest of a UK player in that game. Many people here saw it as disrespect for the UK program, as his foot landed on the Kentucky name. :grumpy::grumpy:

This is going to be really fun!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

1-An old Cattaraugus 225Q that I restored. One of my favorite knives.

2- I love the classy look of Schatt & Morgan. Elegant and beautiful. I just started a new job at a garden supply shop, that knife would be a great knife to keep in my pocket for trimming or opening packages.

3-Badgers :thumbup::thumbup:

What a beautiful knife. Thanks for the gesture.

Nice Washington-bolstered English Jack GA, Rob!
Congrats on keeping the spirit alive!!
Not an entry, but a thank you in the spirit of the tradition!

I am originally from South Africa and only follow NASCAR. Only thing I understand about Basketball are the "Cheer Leaders" - go CATS.

Please count me in to the GAW. :)

Fun idea for a GAW, and a really nice knife to choose! Love love LOVE those Schatt English Jacks, they're big the way I like 'em, nice and slim, and all the variations are just great. This one, however, might be top of the heap, with that super sheepsfoot and small pen combo, and the fancy bolsters. A real hum-dinger.

Not an entry, please. Though I'd love a shot at this knife, I have *no* idea about basketball, and in any case, would rather let others have the chance.

Here's a pic that I like, of a knife that I love, to keep the thread lookin' good. ;)

1. What I think is the best pic I have ever taken of a knife or knives:

2. I really like big traditional knives, there is just more to love :). And this S&M is simply STUNNING, the handle material is absolutely gorgeous.

3. UK all the way!!!!! :)

Incredibly generous GAW Primble, and an amazing knife. Thank you for being part of The Porch.

Here's my favorite - love the CV steel, sheep foot, and American made!
Case yellow medium stockman by tens339, on Flickr

Regarding the GAW - I really like the keystone, reminds me of Pennsylvania and my dad and grandpa that worked in the coal mines. I love the brands that are tied to that region - can't get more American than that! My second reason is I really like the sheep foot and would love to get a knife with sheep foot main. I don't currently have one like that.

Kentucky could go all the way. Why not?

Thank for the opportunity!

- Rex

GREAT Job Primble!! In the finest tradition of this forum!
This is not an entry, because I already have this knife and actually that whole set from 2008.
But it is a good excuse to post a pic of 1 of my favorite knives! ;) One of Charlie's of course!! :D

Good Luck All!

I'll play!
1: This is probably the best knife picture I've taken. I stupidly skinned this #15 and had it made into a beerlow then almost immediately regretted it, which soured the beerlow somewhat. The capped ebony was such a beautiful design.
20141011_090654 by mrbleh, on Flickr

2: My initals are SM, my wife's first initial is M, making us S&M, and I have sons with initials S and M. I've been wanting to get a Schatt and Morgan simply because of the S&M for quite some time.

3: I don't sports so I hope your team wins and all those other teams are likely cheaters and liars. Your team is clearly the best, most honest, and has the most integrity of any of the teams in the tournament. Even if they loose, your team will be the winners in my heart for their impeccable gamesmanship. ;)

1. This knife for EDC and hard use

IMG_1349_zpscynyreyy.jpg
[/IMG]

2. I like the bone bolsters and blade and have never owned a S & M knife. I would like the Barber dime and Morgan Dollar if I don't win the knife. And the Linda Carter picture that I never received in your last GAW! :eek:

3. Villanova has a shot at Kentucky, but it will not beat the Cats.

6. I like Grant Hill :D

1. Here is a dream knife for me if I could ever have one custom made

2. I have been eyeballing those English jacks for several years now but have always been leery of its size. I am a sheepsfoot convert and always have one in my pocket these days. I also love the bolster treatment on this knife.

3. To start with, I was in middle school at the time but I vividly remember Christian Laetner taking down my wildcats in the elite 8. I still hate him (in a fun sporting way) and really want one of those shirts. My dad's family is from the Stanford, KY area and while I am a USC alumni, when it comes to basketball I bleed Kentucky blue (and maybe football if Stoops can make them competitive again).

With that being said, I do not see the Harrison twins and Cauley-Stein being denied a second year in a row.
