Greetings fellow blade enthusiasts!
I'll be using this thread to post photos of my recent (last couple of years) passion, bone blades.
They are hand made, by me, as close to "from the ground up" as I can. In many cases, I skinned, tanned, harvested, carved and otherwise shaped certain materials from scratch.
I've always been a knife and sword enthusiast, as long as I can remember. then 12 years ago I became engrossed with primitive skills and crafting things from organic materials. That lead to making my living by tanning traditional, brain tanned, buckskin (and teaching the art).
I've worked with bone before, making arrow heads or fish hooks, and I've seen some good bone knives people made. But when I eventually decided to merge together my love of pointy and sharp things and my passion for organic materials, I decided I couldn't make just "any old" bone blade.
So, here they are... truly unique art pieces. I'm willing to bet there are no other "Bone Swords" out there in the world. And if they do exist... I want to know about it!

Disclaimer: Though bone has been used for cutting, sawing, stabbing, and puncturing since the dawn of man, and though these pieces are sharpened as decently as possible without compromising structural integrity, these pieces are intended for display only. Bone is fragile, and the edge can be damaged quite easily with improper handling, and of course - use.
All the materials used in these pieces were acquired ethically and legally in all cases. In most, the animals were captive raised, here in the US, and died of natural causes.

All feedback and questions are welcome!

Giraffe Bone Japanese Wakizashi Samurai Sword - Tiger in Bamboo

Combining primitive elements with exotic materials and traditional Japanese style, this sword is a true anachronism.
The sword is hand carved from a Giraffe canon bone (lower leg). The handle is then wrapped with traditional brain tanned buckskin (made by Two Wolves) over Monitor Lizard skin for a beautiful effect of color and contrast, in the traditional Japanese Tsuki-maki style wrap.
The scabbard is also hand carved out of a gorgeous piece of North American Poplar showing a rare amount of dark wood. The "Tiger in Bamboo" was then burned on by hand using professional pyrography tools. As it happens, the "moon" in the top right is an actual knot in the wood that just happened to be there, and the dark wood contrasting with the light suggests a shoreline the tiger is approaching.
Both blade and scabbard were lovingly sanded by hand and rubbed with mineral oil.

The very nature of this sword makes it a one-of-a-kind piece. I may make similar items, but no two look, or feel, alike. This sword is sure to be the center piece of your collection, and certainly a conversation piece that will keep on fascinating any who look at it.

The sword comes with both vertical and horizontal stands, so you can choose your preferred display style.

All the materials used in the construction of this piece were acquired legally and ethically from animals and plants within the USA.

Overall Length - 25.25"
Blade Length - 17"

Camel Bone Bedouin Jambiya

This unique piece is completely hand made from natural materials.
Combining primitive elements with exotic materials and traditional middle eastern style, it is a one of a kind work of art.
The dagger is hand carved from a Camel canon bone (lower leg). The grip has an Ebony veneer liner and wrapped in traditional braintanned buckskin. The engraving is filled in with charcoal mixed with epoxy. Blade oiled with mineral oil.
Sheath of wood wrapped in buckskin, with accents of gorgeous highly figured Olive wood from Israel (acquired from a personal friend who harvested the wood himself).
A bedouin proverb that says "Trust in Allah, but tie your Camel first." is incorporated into the piece in two parts.
The sheath carries the first part (burned) - "Trust in Allah"
The blade carries the second (engraved). - "But tie your Camel first"

Your compliments are much appreciated. Thank you!
Currently I'm working on a long tanto, which should be finished in a day or two, and a Roman Gladius (also Giraffe). The latter will take a while, but should be done in a few weeks hopefully.

By popular request, I'm working on a few simpler bone weapons that do not include a sheath etc, and so have a much lower price point.

Giraffe Bone Dagger - "Leopard's Tooth"

This Knife is completely hand made from natural materials.

The Knife is hand carved from a Giraffe ulna bone. The bone was worked into an ergonomic grip on its porous end, and into a curved, pointy edge on its solid end. Due to the natural curve and structure of the bone, the edge is on the inside of the curve (facing up in the photos).
Blade is sanded to an almost mirror finish and oiled with mineral oil. The pommel is the natural structure of the bone's end, left intact for a primitive, wild look.

I let the bone inspire me with what it wants to be made into. This one reminds me a lot of a large fang, so I decided to burn on it something appropriate, and hence the name "Leopard's Tooth".

No sheath is included with this item.

Overall Length - 13.25"
Blade Length - 6"

All materials were ethically and legally sourced. Animal products are all from the USA.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This blade is a piece of art and NOT a weapon. Bone is fragile and the item is intended for display purposes ONLY! Any damage to the piece incurred after delivery of the item is the soul responsibility of the buyer.

Price: $79

"Elven" Knife
Inspired by the Lord of the Rings elven weapons, and done as a test piece before I move into making an Elven sword.
Made of a camel bone, with Canaraywood (Centrolobium spp) grips. I added a little flair with a burnt band around the front end of the grip, and as is my tradition, I adapted the maker's mark to the cultural background of the blade, and burned it in Elvish.

Overall Length - 13.5"
Edge Length - 7.5"
Thickness - Tapers from 1/4" near the grip.

No sheath.

Cost: $79

All materials were ethically and legally sourced. Animal products are all from the USA.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This blade is a piece of art and NOT a weapon. Bone is fragile and the item is intended for display purposes ONLY! Any damage to the piece incurred after delivery of the item is the soul responsibility of the buyer.
