Primos/Wheeler Collaboration Bowie

Nick, it is south of North Carolina and Tennessee, west of South Carolina, east of Alabama and north of Florida. Hope that helps. :p

I want to see this one when it is all done. When I first saw the photos I thought the blade was jeweled/engine turned, but I didn't figure you guys would ever do that.

Wow, 2 of my favorite makers collaborating, it's knife heaven. :)

Keith, you're right, in the photo, it almost does look like a jeweled blade. :)

I have a bowie from Terry with his raindrop damascus pattern, the pattern is exceptionally well done and very tight, I am certain that when this knife is finished, it's going to be a killer.

Here is a close up of what this pattern of Terry's looks like. (Hope Terry doesn't mind :) )

Megalobyte,
That is just plain teasing! Post the whole pic!!!!!! :D
From the looks of that blade shape, I HAVE to see the rest of it - one of the nicest clip versions I've seen... :D

And if that's the type of patterning we'll see when it's done... Well, I know Nick will do it justice! :)

JS, I didn't want to hijack the thread with a knife of my own, was just wanting to show a good shot of Terry's raindrop damascus pattern, but if you like, the knife can be seen in full by clicking on the "My Knives" link in my signature line, it's near the middle of the page somehwere.

Oh, and Nick will definitely do it justice, like very few can. :)

Thanks everyone! :D

I know Terry usually does a lower layer count on his rain-drop, and that should account for the difference in light relection from the bowie on page one, to the blade Ari posted.

Trust me guys, this Southwest Bowie blade is SWEET! In both the overall lines, and the patterning. Terry did an acceptional job with his rain-drop, it's very tight and consistent, yet still flowing and not sterile. I only mention that, because some patterns seem cold when they're totally consistent. But not this one. Terry nailed it :D

Thanks!
-Nick-

My heart is sinking here. I hope I didn't screw up. The blade is finished. No, it won't look like the one in Megalobyte's shot. I went for a different look.

Nick is right. The main difference is the layer count. Megalobyte's blade has 160 layers (which is my standard), where the collaboration Bowie has 320.

With twice the layer count the layers are obviously much finer. On Megalobyte's blade I just let the light and dark areas provide the contrast. But with the higher layer count (and hence, finer layers) the collab blade just looked too dark to me.

So what I did was finish the blade with a bright finish to let the refractory qualities of the pattern itself create the contrast. It's more of a 3D / holographic thing. It is not however a shallow etch. You can feel the pattern.

Terry..dont beat yourself here ...first off it is always exciting seeing a damascus piece coming from your shop(more please!).Secondly a collaboration piece between two of the most exciting Smiths out there is cause for celebration. That Blade is pure grace..I love the blade treatment you have selected ,it doesnt comptete for attention with the sleek and sexy profile, also I think it gives Nick more freedom when it comes to guard ferrule and handle selection...Indeed it is a Winner
Texture and movement are my damascus mantra!

Thanks, I didn't want to tromp on the thread, either, but I hadn't seen yours (I don't think! LOL!!!)

Terry, I thought yours was the finished blade and one can see the shimmer in some of the pics... I may have to visit Nick soon just to see this one live before it diappears into somebody's collection! :D And Terry, I'd want to visit your shop to see it, too... but I'm afraid that's a little outta the way! ;)

Meantime, I still can't wait to see the end product!!!

Terry, don't let your heart sink any further, I know you and your standards well enough to know that your blade is spectacular in it's own way, and own right, I still feel that the damascus on the bowie I have of yours is some of the finest damascus I have ever seen, and that includes damascus from some very good makers with fancy initials after their names. :) I just wish your wait time was a little shorter, and that your bowies weren't so scarce on the secondary market, but there's a good reason they are. :)

I still consider that day when I saw you list the bowie for sale, and I was first to respond, one of the luckiest days of my life, felt like I won the lottery. :)

I really can't wait to see how this turns out (no pressure Nick :D )!

I have to say Terry that this blade is one of the most striking I have seen for a while , the shape is stunning anf the damascus pattern and finish is sublime - WOW!
