Princeton Tec Attitude question

I just bought myself a PT Attitude and am very impressed with it. Very good light output for such a small inexpensive torch. My question is, there is a small grey object inside the LED module that rattles all over the place. It looks like a pellet of some sort and is visible through the translucent case that holds the 3 LED units and it does not affect the light, but it does rattle a bit. Is this normal?

I bought one for a teacher at the end of last year and only handled it once, but I don't recall there being any rattle--something like that would probably catch my attention and kind of get on my nerves. I would probably contact them and ask them about it. I could be wrong, but it doesn't hurt to ask them.

Thanks Z, I just sent an email to them. I posted the same question on Candle Power Forums and one of the guys there says the pellet is probably a catalyst to neutralise the gasses emitted by the battery.

**UPDATE** I checked a review and it does confirm that "A platinum catalyst pellet is present in the LED module to prevent gases released naturally by the batteries from building up inside the sealed body."

yeah, it can be a problem in some sealed flashlights especially those that use lithium batteries, because it can essentially turn your flashlight into a bomb! they have platinum catylysts in cars too, but that's to absorb harmful emissions.

Hm...I was wrong as usual...:footinmou --I guess I just didn't look it over as well as I thought.

Thanks for the review link. I've been planning to pick up a couple for myself--it's a good deal for a good light.

The PT Attitude has become my new favorite light. It's small enough that I always have it, and it's bright enough for most general uses. I freaked out when I lost it for a couple days last week, but now I'm okay. Yesterday a friend and I went to Galyan's to look around, and I convinced him to buy a PT light. Today he told me it was the best $8 he'd ever spent. (I can't remember the model name, but he got the Xenon 2AAA model.) They're great lights.
