Printing/poltting using Autocad

Any Autocad (2007) experts here? I am a little familiar with the program but the printing aka plotting is giving me fits! :(

I made a drawing of a knife that is say 2” by 14”. Now I need to print this to scale on paper. Since it is a regular printer, 8.5X14 is my maximum paper size so:

1)How the heck do I print it to scale? I put 1:1 scale but get a smaller version than real dimensions.
2)Can I print longer drawings using 2 sheets of paper? I mean is there a setting for the program to do it by itself instead of me having to flip the drawing around and print the missing part?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve tried everything and can’t seem to understand how it works.

Thanks

Pat

Maybe I can be of some assistance seeing as how I am Autodesk Certified.

Is your printer capable of using 8.5"x14" paper?

Are you trying to print in model space or paper space?

If you are in paper space, have you set up your sheet size?

In paper space, have you scaled the viewport so you can plot 1 to 1?

When you plot, are you plotting 1 to 1?

We'll start with this and proceed further.

Oops, sorry, you did say you can plot on 8.5x14 didn't you?

Did you set up the drawing units for Architectural? If not, go to Format--units--and select architectural under the Type tab. If thats done, go to Plot, uncheck Fit to Paper, select 1:1, check Center the Plot, and under What to Plot, select Window then draw a window around your sketch and press enter. Check to make sure you're in Landscape not Portrait, Preview to make sure it all looks good and go for it. This all assuming your not messing with Paper space. If you don't know what that is, then don't worry about it, you're probably not in it, AutoCAD starts in Model space.

also make sure it's in inches not mm, i have A9 cad which is almost identical to autocadr14, i noticed up top on the plot page you can click on inches or mm.

If you can print on 8 1/2 x 14, rotate your drawing in model space to be able to use the diagonal to have enough room to print.

Thanks guys. I am on my week-end (Tuesday-Wednesday) so I can't actually try that now. Gotta spend some time with my better half. But as soon as I can I'll give all this a try and let you know how I do.

I do appreciate all your help, thanks again.

Just wanted to say thanks again. It worked real well. I printed to PDF so I could see the results and then sent that to the printer when I got home. Perfect! :D
