Pro Series

like most here I do like the stamped far better. that said Bob Loveless thought stamping caused issue with the steel so he used an acid etch method due to this years ago. ive never had an issue so not sure how science this is vs. reality but from my experience it falls into more science and less reality issue with stamping.

where the etching is it shouldn't wear away too quickly, but it will eventually. we've seen it before.

If Buck is worried about stamping compromising blade strength, why do they still stamp the 420 Blades?

I could be wrong, but when we had the 2018 BladeForums knife made, I think I remember Buck telling us that CPM-154 was the highest end steel we could use if we wanted to have it stamped because they didn't have the capabilities to do it to harder steel.

don't know if Buck is worried or not? I was commenting on Bob Loveless theory on it many many years ago.

Understood,

That makes sense. Probably not wanting to invest in more expensive tooling for small runs.

Everyone,
Please don't misunderstand, I am very pleased with both of these knives.
The Maker's Mark will in no way affect the performance of the knife.
Everything else about them is spot on.

That critter will never know if it was skinned with a stamped knife or and etched one.

All is good, just curious more than anything else.

LV,

Ya, I don't think any of us like it! There was an extensive thread on this a while ago though.
