I was at Walmart looking at ammo and took a quick glance over at the knives. I randomly purchased the needs work.

The AO is GREAT, it carries quite easy and like all kershaws, it came with a very decent factory edge. I've always wanted a wharnie design, but don't care much for traditional folders.

This is my second "walmart" kershaw, the first was a skyline which was a nice little blade too. I usually avoid "cheaper" kershaws and favor the ZT line, but they really are a hell of a bargain!

The needs work is one of my favorite edc's. That sandvick steel takes a razor sharp edge with very little effort which makes easy work of boxes cardboard and rope.

I really wouldn't mind a g10 version, but honestly, the way it is right now is just fine.

Yes, the G10 version is my favorite work knife. It sharpens up so fast with that straight edge. One of the best for sure.

i can not figure out how they make a profit on thier knives. they make them very good at a low price. they know something i dont. and made in USA.tough to beat that.

I had a Needs Work. I got it for $22.50 shipped, brand new. It was a great knife, and I'm sorry to have traded it off. It has absolutely the best ergonomics in a knife I could possibly ask for. I liked the blade shape and the blade profile, but I would also like to see a more traditional blade style with the same handle.

You might also like to try a Mini-Cyclone. I got one of those for $22.50 as well, and the way the AO locks up with such authority is very reminiscent of my old Needs Work.

Yeah, I would agree. The Wharnie is great and all, but a lot of the times you need a knife with some belly.

seniormcblade,

From what I've heard Kershaw does pretty much all of their production in house, even down to the screws. So I would figure that they're able to offer their goods to dealers for significantly lower prices than most other knife companies.

Then of course there's the money that they make off of ZT and their other knives.

Anyway, yeah, I definitely love my Needs Work. When I bought it I was surprised that I hadn't heard much about it from people.

I've played with a couple Needs Works at work a time or two. I love the feel, and love a good Wharnie. I especially can't complain about the steel, having used a ton of other Kershaws with the Sandvik steels. I just can't bring myself to buy it because I don't like the feel of the handle. I think I need to track down a G-10 version sometime.

I didn't like the looks of the Poly handled Needs Work when I first saw them. When the G10 version came out they looked much better to me, luckily I won one in a giveaway. Absolutely loved it. Solid build, very snappy opening, great blade shape for anything I needed to do at work. Liked it so much I had a giveaway of my own and bought a new Needs Work to be the prize. Even gave another one as an Xmas gift to my future SIL. Still haven't tried the Poly version, though.

Even at its higher price the G10 version is still an excellent value. The Poly version would be even more of a value. Thanks for reminding me of how much I like this knife.

Can't say enough about the Needs Work. I have a couple of them, and have given a couple as gifts - all with the G10 handle. I got mine at thekershawstore.com. It always amazes me every time I use one how great a knife it is for the money.

I've been thinking of getting a G10 version, but they're kind of hard to find and I actually like the feel of the Polymide handles. How are the flat slabs of the G10 for grip?

I've been wanting to buy one to donate to Ankerson so I can see how well the tip holds up. That's the only part of the knife that has worried me so far.

Needs Work is a nice knife for sure, but it great in tip up configuration. I just wish it was a bit bigger.

Hey Kenny - it is pretty flat but it's a great grip, and the angle of the blade gives it great ergos when using.
