Problem: Bee 2x72 Platen Wants to Rotate on me

Hey guys,

I am having a problem with my platen, it attaches to the frame of the grinder with a large bolt through, a flat washer, and a plastic handle with metal threaded insert. It's a sprung handle so you can rotate it out of the way when not in use. No matter how tight I tighten the handle a moderate amount of pressure will cause the platen to rotate, which can cause all sorts of problems.

Any ideas?

Interesting. I have two, one is a clone. They both have table changes and are older machines without that system. Have you tried a lock washer? Frank

I'm familiar with the Bee

The only thing I can think of is that the post stud may be loose in the way it attaches to the platen.

It's a pretty simple stout system.

I'd just pull it apart one by one and see if you can lay eyes on the problem.

Perhaps try to replace that handle with a nut and wrench for testing.

Thanks Count, I'll take it apart and check it out. A lock washer might be a good idea too Frank. I thought about using a nut and a wrench, I will go that route if all else fails.

Check with Rob at Canadian Knifemaker Supply 403-556-1113. I'll bet he has a correct answer for you. Frank

drill and tap the mount that holds the platen, then insert a set screw to lock the orientation. At least it worked for my Bee.
