Problem of no backspacer

I just make my own backspacers.

Am I the only one who carries my knives(w/ clips) in the watch pocket?

That keeps the knife from scratching up my phone in my right front pocket.

I also find that, no matter how heavy the knife(even my Leatherman Charge), I hardly notice it in the watch pocket.

I am not nice to my knives - they get used and abused as a time and step saving utility tool. I have a small prejudice against backspacers simply because I've noticed that there is some tendency for pocket lint to collect in the lock area of folders with backspacers. For instance: The ONLY failures to lock open that I experienced on a Kershaw Boa that i used everyday for 4 or 5 years straight were because I picked up a matt of pocket fuzz in the lock area. This was despite the fact that I always carried the knife clipped to a pocket (not down in the pocket debris field). In my experience as a serial knife abuser - I've never had a folder fail as a result of not having a backspacer - simply have a slight preference for non-backspacer designs because crap tends to fall thru them and not collect. I always carry knives clipped to a pocket - mostly because this has pretty much eliminated me loosing them - the very worst knife ownership experience for me.

RFP is my dedicated knife pocket. Nothing else gets carried there. Been that way for 50+ years and I've never found anything that I'd want to carry that would make me change it.

When I get change, it generally comes alongside a receipt of some kind.
Before either goes into my pockets, the coins get wrapped in said receipt.
Problem solved, for me anyway.

How many pockets do you guys have !?

I hate putting anything in my back pockets because it is uncomfortable when I sit down. That leaves me with my 2 front pockets, one of which is cell phone only. Unfortunately that means knife, keys, and wallet all have to go in the other one. During the summer I just leave my wallet in the car a lot of the time, during the winter my coat provides a lot of extra pockets.

Most of my knives are longer than my watch pocket is deep. This leaves a lot of knife sticking out and I'm worried about losing it.

I've had this happen a few times but I normally don't have change in the same pocket as my blade unless it's pocket clipped.

marthinus the luminous back spacer is simply fantastic. i would love to see this on all my spydies & benchmades. sir you are an original thinker.as to debris in the knives--i suggest everyone do a little lube & cleaning on their folders just as they do any other equipment.everything on this earth eventually gets dirty & also wears out.

I edc either a Sebenza or Umnumzaan in the calfskin sheath in my RFP - with nothing else (during the week in the office). I like how the sheath conforms to the shape of the knife - even with the clip still on. It helps keep fuzz, lint and other crap out of the knife.

Nights and weekends it is usually something else clipped to my pocket - with nothing else.

My VIC Climber rides in my RR pocket next to my wallet.

Thanks for the kind words.

I love how leather can age! That calfskin pouch looks great!
