Still, call them and explain your situation and how you received the sebbie. They might surprise you. Their custumer service is out standing You might have a defective blade. Good Luck

looks great to me! a few marks near the CR logo, but your going to use it right? Don't worry.....

To my eyes, it seems that a fair amount of the belly has gone south. Definitely either call or email CRK. They will almost certainly make it right, and post back with the results.

Looks ok to me also, but the lighting reflection is different in the two pictures. Maybe take a picture of the two blades side by side, and or tip to tip like a mirror image, and post.

I see some belly gone too, if it was identical to the upper photo anyway . . .

I don't know, I guess I could contact Mr. Reeve but I have already stropped the nick out it and I have no way to display it to him, unless remnants of it remain under magnification. Have to get out the magnifying glass tonight. I don't want him to think I'm pulling a fast one or something.

I was dumb not to have just sent it in when I noticed it last night. It was very small but in the end it was deeper than I thought it would be. I was a stropping machine last night. Who'd ever imagine you could remove that much steel with some dia-paste and a strop?

Call, tell them your story and send it in. Chris can (will) measure the blade and draw his own conclusions. Odds are very strong that his own determination might prove very favorable to you. Give the process a chance, you might be surprised.

Just call the company and let them know...isnt the whole point of this knife that its supposed to be perfect?

Be careful, I'v sent one in for a locked up pivot screw and they "sharpened" it for me.... For free. It had 1/16 of the whole blade ground off and they reprofiled my perfect edge back to their fat convex edge. :(

Now when I "HAVE" to send on in, I tape the blade up and write do NOT sharpen on it.

You may send her out, only to have them "Resharpen" it for you and have even more blade missing :o

And... For what it's worth, I have seen the same size and style of two different steels have a very different profile. So your S-30 may be giving you the illusion that you stropped your belly down. When in fact it was like that when new.

My Damascus regular has a lot less belly then my BG-42. :)

I think you would be doing very well to remove a noticable amount of steel on your leather strop  I guess it is possible, but geez, that is a serious bit of stropping.

Also I really reckon that knives sharpened out of the factory (pretty much any factory) are never going to have a beautiful polished edge. More often than not the final sharpening is not done on a stone, rather it is finished on a belt. This gives you a very toothy edge which is more inclined to chip. I had this problem with both user sebs that I carry. One actually chipped out on me.

No such problems since I put my own polished edge on. It is even thinner (less angle) than original, both my users cut like a champ and stay sharp.

Bottom line, don't send it back - put your own edge on :)

If I understand you correctly, you had a very small ding at the belly portion of your sebenza that you could feel with your finger nail but could not really see? If you stropped it and remnants of the ding are still there, then not much metal was removed at all. Did you compare the blade shapes before your stropping session? Also consider the fact that sebenza blades are hand ground and will vary slightly from one another.

Blades are finish-ground by hand, so some variations are inevitable.

Without before and after measurements, wouldn't it be hard to say how much of the blade has really disappeared? I am honestly having trouble believing anything you could do with a strop could remove any significant amount of the blade? You can't really compare it to other similar blades because they are not identical, as a result of the hand finishing involved in any blade (including full "factory production" knives, not just semi-custom/semi-production or custom knives).

I hear you guys loud & clear! The angle could be diferent on the new blade steel - but I'm sure it's not. When sitting around and opening and closing it to break it in, I admired the large 21 blade which some don't like for the nice upswept look while having a nice belly at the front. It's not there anymore.

Remember I loaded a good coating of fresh 6, 3, 1 micron dia-paste on my strops and hit each strop "at very least" 200 passes x's 3 strops all told. The 6 micron was a bit heavy handed tryng to smooth out that endless fissure of a notch which is still there. Damn thing.

Chris runs his steel on the soft side and all I can tell you is those two blades are shot at darn near the same distance and with the same camera & settings. Plus that S30V Sebenza has been gone for months, so no comparison memories left in my mind. I wiped it down and thought wtf happened to my blade?? If you look carefully you can't even see a grind on it anymore. I honestly believe I stropped a noticeable amount out of the belly of the blade off or I'm losing my marbles - 50/50 propsition there....lol :D

I'll contact them tomorrow and short of getting a blade replacement under warranty I'll have to live with it. I won't like it much anymore because it feels like a big handle with too small of a blade - it looks goofy in the hand after having it untouched.

Thanks for the good tips guys! :) High end knives geesh.
