Problem with an exposed knife tip

The manix I had was like this. The tip was pretty much flush with the scales. A little scary but never cut myself or anything.

No, only, as per your claim regarding your Caly 3, IF I PRESSED HARD ENOUGH. Hell of a difference between that and "casually brushing by".

No need to get angry. I can brush by the tip and get cut. Pressing hard enough is probably the equivalent of 3-4 ounces of weight--for example, grabbing it out of my pocket and brushing by the tip it could happen.

Can we stop the bickering? It's not going to help anyone.

Also, as has been said, could we get pictures? That might help direct the conversation towards more fruitful things.

I was just going to post this pic also. Thank you Sams, thread is way better with pics. It does look like you need to make some mods to seat the blade lower. I would just make this an excuse to buy a new knife, but that's me. :D

As you can see there is a significant amount sticking out. I use my knives allot and only use Spyderco in the field. I would like to emphasize I have paid to ship other knives to Spyderco and they did a fantastic job reprofiling.

the only bummer I loose a good 1/2 " of blade length.

Here are some pictures of the tip of my Caly 3:

Sorry for the not very good pictures, but the tip is just barely covered by the scales. I'll probably take my own advice tonight and grind the ricasso down a bit.

Also, your Stretch is way way worse than mine!

I think I've had it about four years or so now. I haven't ground the edge down too much via sharpening, since I typically carry it in an office setting so I don't need to touch it up frequently.

Hmm. It doesn't seem like something that would normally be a problem without excessive sharpening. Not calling you a liar, just doesn't seem like something Spyderco would do; having the tip be that easily exposed.

Sometimes things slip. It honestly isn't that big a deal. My CF Caly 3.5 is just fine, and the SB Caly 3.5 I used to have was just fine. A friend has the VG-10 version and the tip is seated a bit deeper but not by a whole heck of a lot.
