Problem with Employee at SnodyKnives

Liked the knife making video I saw of yours, but this one was a bit off putting. Employees screw up, ass chewing is often necessary, but humiliating an employee and broadcasting it as entertainment might cost you some sales. I am sure some of your potential customers work in trades jobs who have bosses who berate them and that video might not sit well with them. I am a fan of your work, just giving you some honest feedback.

I appreciate you taking time to post.

I paid $2,000.00 to have my first Knifemaking Video Produced over 6 years ago.

The forums Hated It and I got laughed at by many of my close friends in the community.
The video went viral and I got about 1,000 new clients who were not part of our knifemaking community..
These were just Youtube People who wanted custom knives and appreciated the entertainment value of my videos.

Since then I have filmed, produced and uploaded well over 800 videos all with the goal of ultimately becoming televised and spreading the Snody Gospel to the masses.
I have been late on mortgage payments because I used the money for Video Cameras and new editing software.

I need to put some things into perspective.
I pay my guys $16.50 per hour to work in my shop and do whatever I tell them.
I also launch their careers as knifemakers and allow them access to over 1/4 million dollars in specialized knife making equipment with which they can build their own product.

When we got signed with a major network that rhymes with the word "like" they promised each cast member between $400.00 to $2,500.00 per episode.
They guy in the video getting chastised for poor production signed a contract to appear on a reality tv show.
He is getting paid by SnodyKnives and getting a check from the network.

We have a producer on site 12 hours per day.. When they see something they like they ask us to repeat it.
We usually repeat the process 4 four times with four different camera angles. That means if they hear me chewing on someone they come running over with the cameras.
Then the producer asks us to repeat it.. He sits there and pours rocket fuel on a proverbial fire.

Do you believe that a successful multi-season prime time network reality show can be sustained by the existing members of the various knife forums?

Your talking about apples and oranges here bro..

I do this to support my family, I had a healthy 7lb 3oz baby boy yesterday at 13:15 hrs. That is my third son.
I paid cash at the hospital in advance and payed the doctors in advance.
100 dollar bills and we had a room that looked like the marriot. Its not cheap to have a baby nowadays.

If it does not make dollars it does not make sense.

I am Playing Chess not Checkers..

I am talking QVC and Bass Pro Shops, I am talking about being the Knife Game Tom Hanks. I am talking about a huge collaboration deal between Snody Knives and Ka-Bar.
I am talking about a 500% increase in sales over 2011..

You are talking about a "potential customer who has a boss that berates them" not purchasing my products because I shared some behind the scenes footage of a reality show.
Let me send an Official Message to to all my "potential customers" who have a boss that berates them and this is a sincere message that follows.

Life it too short to let anyone make you miserable.. If you have a boss that makes you feel miserable take the money that you would have spent on a Snody Knife and use it to pay for a night class at the local community college and get the required job skills to find new employment.. Then send me a bunch of money when you get that new job.

Chumli is making $40,000.00 per episode.

The guy in my video getting chewed out also fights in no holds barred cage fights.
He is tougher than you guys are giving him credit for. He makes less in a cage fight than he does in my shop for one week.
Ask him if he would rather be on TV wearing a polo shirt making over $3,000.00 per week working for me or cage fight for $1,000.00 and then pay $4,000.00 in medical expenses.

I trust the majority of the Veteran Membership is well aware of the fact that it is not in my nature to Humiliate Anyone at Anytime under Any Circumstances.
This is a reality show dude and they are scripted Bro.

Let me break it down for you.. They want Drama. 4 million people will not watch knife grinding on prime time tv.
My producer is from Whale Wars and he currently has over four shows on prime time. He knows what the network audience wants.

I signed a contract to accommodate the producer and submit my shop and personal life to the camera eye. Life in HD. Dolby Digital.

I am trying to live the American Dream and support my family in the worst economy of my lifetime.

Much Respect from Texas

No need to be so elitist. Mike works at a price point (often not always) that makes it very interesting for potential first timers when it comes to handmade knives to buy his. I agree that it COULD potentially turn away customers. As Mike himself already realised since he replaced the video with something else.

I didn't even see the video. But Mike cussing out an employee doesn't fit the image that I have of him.

Thanks for posting on my thread.
Garsson is anything but elitist.. Come on dude..
He has an Elite Knife Collection but that about where the Elitism ends.
I have broke bread with the dude and spent real time with him. He is an OG.
He walks in the country club flashing ink with a 10k Rolex on his wrist (everyone else matching tuxedos and tags on their wrist. He is a Vanguard of Fashion.
Elitist shop at Gucci and Burberry and they cover those tattoos when they hit the ballroom.

How many True Elitist are going to take time out of the Elite Schedule to correspond with individuals who share a dissimilar perspective.
I know a bunch of Elitist's and Garsson has more Schwag in his little finger than a True Elitist. Elitist do not mingle with the common folk like you and I.
Garsson owns single knives that cost more that a new car. Why is that important.. Well why is brain surgeons resume important. Why is a ball players hitting average important. If you go to the survival forum you get advice from guys who have "actually survived" not in practice but in real life.
Why is an attorneys track record important. Time is important and if you are going to take time to read someones posts then I believe that their knife collecting and or knife making history is an important factor, especially if you are looking for advice.

Garsson brings it like the meteorologist.

The video is down because I just signed a Non-Disclosure and that marked the end of that.
They are in the process of purchasing many of my existing videos and then they will come down as well.
I get paid 7 cents per view for every video so I clearly would not take that video down unless I someone payed me to do it.

You really need to see the video dude before you get too wound up about me loosing potential customers..
I have already committed to appear in at least 4 movies that will be featured in 2013.
They are scripted movies with producers and what you will see me doing will not be real but the money and brand recognition will be.
Thanks again for posting. I wish I could show you the video but that is no longer an option.
Snodygate2012. The missing tapes..

First of all, congratulations Mike on another healthy son. Good mojo.
Secondly, I literally cannot see what the fuss is about. I just see a vid about a bunch of people getting fed. Must've missed the drama somehow.
And yeah, Garsson ain't no elitist! I used to think he was, but now I know better. His blood ain't blue, I guarantee it!:D

Do their bosses berate them because the bosses are dicks or do they berate the worker because the work sucks?

I have had a lot of people doing construction for me in the last couple years, and the bosses berating them saves them from me...the bosses are most likely kinder.

Suck is suck....that is a fact of life.

There are a bunch of Snody knives that I want....I even have them on order, and can't get Mike to make them....pretty sure Mike sells everything he makes...so he can afford to choose his customers....just like Mike, his work isn't for everyone.

Now tell me about what custom knives you got, son?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I have a few customs, Son. Nothing I use much, they just sit in the safe. See one of your posts below post from the past of you apologizing to Snody for claiming he was a part time maker. I find it to be interesting that you have now come full circle to post fan boy comments on anything snody related. He's a big boy and can respond on his own. I find it interesting that you actually state that your apology is not out of fear or weakness....insecure much?

Remember your post from 8/21/06
I just got off of the phone with Mike Snody....

I called him...to clear the air.

I have no personal beef with Mike. My opinions were given under the presumption that he was/is a part time maker, working the craft as a hobby, if you will...that was wrong, the information was outdated.

I apologized to him for making that presumption. That simple, and if I could edit my comments on the previous thread(I can't, it's locked), I would.

Now, I understand that there has been some crap floating around the internet, which I cannot answer, due to certain circumstances(I'm banned from those venues).

Anyone who thinks that this apology to Mike was based upon anything but common respect, and consideration, instead of weakness or fear is wrong.

I will repeat, I apologize to Mike Snody, and only Mike Snody for certain presumptions which have turned out to be false. I encourage everyone reading this to create their own opinions by visiting:

http://www.snodyknives.com

That is all.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

My posts on Mike's threads would represent less than 1% of my posting in total.

The CONTEXT of the apology is what you are missing...and 100% of that telephone conversation is knowledge that you don't have.

Where I come from, fear and weakness can get you killed...that post was made in 2006, I had just stopped tattooing at a street shop in a very, very hard part of the city in 2005.

Do you have any more thoughts to share?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

This is just wonderful.
As usual this little corner of the forum again generates more drama than it deserves.
It's also unfortunate that this forum hasnt gained any wisdom from the past, i had thought that we here had grown past the attitudes that so far has done this forum and custom knifemaking no favors.

Since this topic is so far off it's original mark and has turned into exercise in futility.
